🌍 This Friday Fact is a stark reminder of the global refugee crisis: the number of Afghan refugees has doubled since 2021, with over 8.2 million Afghans now hosted across 103 countries. Pakistan and Iran bear the brunt, yet many face violence, deportation threats, and protection issues. 🛑 Since November 1st, Pakistan's crackdown on migrants has targeted millions of undocumented Afghans, forcing many to return home, exacerbating existing humanitarian pressures. This sudden influx adds strain to Afghanistan's already fragile infrastructure and resources, further challenging efforts to provide for those in need. ✊ Amidst these challenges, REACT DC stands firm in its commitment to supporting refugees at the ground level. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to provide essential services and resources to newcomers, helping them on their path to self-reliance and integration into American society. 🤝 You can be part of this vital mission too. Whether through volunteering your time, donating resources, or spreading awareness, every contribution makes a difference in the lives of those seeking refuge and a fresh start. Join us in making a positive impact at www.reactdc.org/donate. Together, we can create a brighter future for all. #RefugeesWelcome #SupportRefugees #FridayFacts 🔗 GlobalGiving: https://lnkd.in/e9kvcqyx

Ukraine's Looming Humanitarian Crisis: Millions Displaced, Urgent Aid Needed Millions of people in Ukraine are on the brink of a humanitarian crisis due to full-scale war. According to the director of the European Regional Bureau of the UN Refugee Agency, Philippe Leclerc, nearly 6.5 million Ukrainians have become refugees, with around 3.7 million forced to flee their homes and become internally displaced persons. The majority of refugees and internally displaced persons have expressed a desire to return home, but uncertainty due to the ongoing war complicates the situation. Issues include instability in the country, lack of economic opportunities, and housing. UNHCR is working on rebuilding residential buildings and assisting with employment, but funding for the crisis is only at 13%. Support is needed for refugees, internally displaced persons, and residents of front-line areas. #UkraineWar #Refugees #InternallyDisplaced #HumanitarianAidNeeded

🚨 LGBTIQ refugees are under attack. Our community is in harm's way, directly in the crosshairs of President Trump's recent executive orders. His actions have: ❌ Shut down the U.S. asylum system and the U.S./Mexico border—an illegal action with devastating consequences for the most vulnerable. ❌ Suspended refugee admissions, leaving LGBTIQ refugees stranded in dangerous places. ❌ Stopped humanitarian aid, forcing nonprofits to scale back or shut down entirely. ❌ Brazenly attacked the LGBTIQ community's right to exist, attempting to pit both global and domestic communities against us and each other. ORAM is not going anywhere. Our 16-year legacy has built the resilience, tenacity, and experience to face the severity of the situation today. We're standing firm—providing emergency safe shelter, job training, and advocacy for those left in limbo in transit countries. But we can't do this alone. Donate to our "Stand with LGBTIQ Refugees" Emergency Response and help us raise $50,000 to continue serving LGBTIQ refugees in Kenya, Mexico, and Germany. Together, we can protect and empower those facing rising threats and shrinking resources. ✊ Stand with LGBTIQ refugees today: https://lnkd.in/dfcUg448 #StandWithRefugees #LGBTIQRefugees #ORAM

This is Al-Hol refugee camp, Syria. I took this picture from our car as we passed through security clearances. It’s one of the many places affected by recent US policy changes with regard to refugee support. Please read this update from Partners Relief & Development relating to these developments: “Every day, we stand in the gap to help children and their families affected by conflict and oppression. This week, that gap just got a lot bigger. On Friday, the U.S. State Department announced a freezing of nearly all foreign aid, pending a 90-day review. Communities where we work are already suffering from the impact of this change. In Mae La Refugee Camp in Thailand, the hospital was ordered to close. Sick patients reliant on life-saving oxygen and pregnant women were among those sent home without the vital care they need. Healthcare is now severely limited to the thousands of families in the camp and the students at Partners boarding homes. In Al-Hol Camp in Northeast Syria, security abruptly withdrew and services of food, water, and cooking oil stopped when camp management shut down. The camp management has since received a temporary 14-day waiver to continue services, but the safety and security of the over 44,000 children and women in the camp, deemed one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a child, is alarmingly uncertain. While relief worldwide has halted, the urgent needs have not. Children need food. Families need shelter. Sick and dying patients need healthcare. Communities need support as they courageously work to meet the needs of today in the middle of conflict and oppression. More than ever, this community’s love in action is needed to protect the free, full lives of children. To help fill the gap today, give at www.partners.ngo/donate or send us a message to connect with someone on our team to discuss how you can join us in building this movement of love.” #refugees #Thailand #Syria #toloveistoact

The recent surge in violence in Lebanon has once again thrown the country into chaos, further worsening the already dire refugee and internal displacement crisis in the region. After Israel's attacks this week, the United Nations reported today that over 90,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, while at least 600 people, including 50 children, have been killed, according to the Lebanese government. As the conflict intensifies, countless others are desperately abandoning their homes in search of safety. Lebanon, already struggling to host the largest number of refugees per capita and per square kilometer in the world, is under immense strain. The country is hosting 1.5 million Syrian refugees and over 11.000 refugees from other countries, according to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. Refugee communities are bearing the brunt of this crisis, further compounding their struggles for protection and basic human rights. At Asylum Access, we strongly condemn these acts of violence, and urge the international community to act swiftly, ensuring immediate support for those displaced. Every human being deserves safety, dignity, and the right to live without fear. #RefugeeRights #StandWithLebanon #EndDisplacement #AsylumAccess

See also: blaming the rates of domestic violence in refugee camps and other forcibly displaced communities on forcibly displaced men without also acknowledging the huge systemic violence that those communities live under. Racialized men have been stigmatized throughout history as violent and abusive and events such as 9-11 have solidified these white supremacist prejudices. Non-profits are NOT progressive for contributing to this narrative, and men and boys deserve humanitarian assistance as well. This is especially true given that as in many cases, such as in the UK, once a single family member has gained refugee status, their entire family may also claim refugee status even if not inside the country. This means that forcibly displaced men and boys often undertake the most dangerous migratory pathways, risking their lives in the hope of creating better safety for their entire family unit. #menandboys #humanitarianassistance #nonprofitindustrialcomplex
