I had a dream last night that I gave my next webinar in my robe and didn’t notice until the very end. It’s light blue terry cloth with white polka dots. The sleeves are far too short, and it has seen a lot of years. Ironically, my next webinar is about catastrophizing. Spinning out about the worst case scenario. This dream flub was a disaster. (Okay, that’s dramatic-but I prefer to give webinars dressed more like the picture with this post.) But did dream me spin out? No. She did not. She just said—and I quote (almost entirely accurately)—“Fork it. The content was good, and the color is nice on me.” Pretty meta given that in my next webinar I plan to teach associates a crucial survival skill they don’t learn: How to stop spinning out potential disasters (or at least slow the spin down so you can get some other stuff done). Some real Inception-like stuff is happening when you start using the tools you teach successfully in both your real life and your dreams. Look Mom! I’ve made it. I spent a lot of time in my waking hours as an associate panicking about disasters I was mostly making up in my head. Thanks to coaching, I learned about and created some tools that were a game changer. They help decrease the spin out. I’m going to teach you those tools. @Peter Power is vice chair at the Resilience Association. He discusses the nature of resilience, and what distinguishes Resilience from Business Continuity? Terms can be easily mixed up, so it appears useful to distinguish and clearly define the terminology. Is business continuity "the beating heart of resilience"?  Or is resilience rather about "thriving in uncertain times"? That makes a difference in perception as well as implementation, when #resilience doesn't lend itself to strict planning, like #businesscontinuity. Peter Power offers four lines of sight that can help us predict and understand this state. What a great opportunity to learn from and share with Donna Dupont, Scott Cameron and Josh Bowen today at the DRI Canada (Disaster Recovery Institute) Webinar. Many thanks to Alexander Landry for his insightful questions and amazing facilitation and leadership skills. I very much appreciated the many takeaways from my co-presenters including; Donna's, "There needs to be a real culture of preparedness and a need to include the full paradigm of resiliency" "We need to have 'fit for purpose' plans, processes and relationships" Scott's, "We all have a rolodex; but what happens when you are on a beach and others don't have access to it? Or, who maintains and keeps that rolodex current for you?" "Interoperability needs to include the private sector. Many companies are seeing what is needed during disasters but they can't help because they are standing on the wrong side of the 'yellow tape'" Josh's "We are here to help people; truly Canadian that when bad things happen we do look after each other" "There needs to be critical collaboration and integration before bad things happen. Everyone wants coordination but no one wants to be coordinated" One constant theme was also, the need for real action; people have had many great ideas and there have been several conversations on what is needed over the years. Yet, we still seem to be having the same challenges. The "pillars of Excellence" need to come down and we need to move forward on what we, collectively, know is required to make out communities safer and more resilient. I am looking forward to future learning opportunities through DRI.

This document is intended to help everyone better understand and fulfil their roles related to increasing community and national resilience. Your feedback prior to **May 23rd ** is vital to making sure this document achieves its intended purpose. There are several ways to engage: 1) Provide your specific edits to the document via a feedback form. 2) Join a webinar to share feedback verbally. 3) Submit real-world case studies you'd like to see included in the National Resilience Guidance.
