#irishbioeconomy This is another excellent example of how the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine amongst other funders in Ireland is developing the knowledge base to develop the #irishbioeconomy Food Systems make up approximately 70% of Bioeconomy activities in EU Member States and this is the case in Ireland 🇮🇪 also. Investing in enhanced sustainability, innovation, circularity and in further understanding the #health & #functional #food properties of crops such as #oats is an important approach in supporting an evidence base for options on how to develop a sustainable food & biobased system approach for Ireland #innovation #bioeconomy

Delighted to represent Agrinatura at the Association for European Life Science Universities General Assembly 2024, led by Professor Maria Knutson Wedel, (The vice-chancellor of Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and ICA President). The discussion at the General Assembly centred on the contribution of life science universities towards the EU Commission’s Strategic Dialogue for the future of EU Agriculture. Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, in January 2024 launched the Strategic Dialogue on the future of EU Agriculture, a new forum mandated to shape a shared vision for the future of the EU's farming and food system. She posed four questions: 1. How can we give our farmers, and the rural communities they live in, a better perspective, including a fair standard of living? 2. How can we support agriculture within the boundaries of our planet and its ecosystem? 3. How can we make better use of the immense opportunities offered by knowledge and technological innovation? 4. How can we promote a bright and thriving future for Europe's food system in a competitive world? Agrinatura and ICA are leading the dialogue through research and development projects, education and training, networking and collaboration and policy advocacy.

My #SensoryEvaluation students at State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill started the semester off eager to learn more about what exactly #FoodScience is and how it impacts their day-to-day life. 🌮 This first week we discussed how Food Science evolved and got its spot in the agricultural industry. 🌾 We defined the difference between #FoodScience and #FoodTechnology and discovered the vast career opportunities within each area. 🧑💼 Next week we will begin to explore how #HumanSenses and #Psychology impact our food choices and how we evaluate/react to the foods we eat! 🧠

📢 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS! The J-WAFS Grant for Transforming Animal Agriculture Systems is a funding opportunity for current members of the MIT community—including graduate and undergraduate students—interested in addressing problems associated with industrial food animal production (IFAP). Why this matters: The way we produce meat, milk, and eggs in developed countries has significant environmental and social impacts, many of which remain unchecked. As developing countries increase their food production capacities, the challenge (and opportunity) arises: How do we evolve these systems without falling into the same pitfalls? What we offer: - Funding of $15-25,000 to awarded projects aimed at reducing the negative impacts of industrial animal agriculture - Eligibility for MIT community members, including MIT faculty members and full-time research staff, and currently matriculated MIT graduate and undergraduate students - Support can be to individuals or teams (50% MIT members required) - A focus on projects that have a strong research basis conducted at MIT, with a timeline of 1 year to 18 months Learn more details and how to submit your proposals here: https://lnkd.in/egxPuGuB #Innovation #IFAP #Grants #Food
