Technology from Kongsberg Discovery monitors the airspace, sea surface, water column, and seabed. Martin Wien Fjell is the President of Kongsberg Discovery and underlines the importance of data from ocean space, and in particular seabed mapping, which provides the foundation dataset of the world’s oceans, providing crucial information and insights on the marine environment. 🎯 "The data underpins safe and efficient maritime trade, which can support the de-carbonization of the shipping industry and help manage and protect the environment from potentially catastrophic damage. 🌍 It also contributes to decision-making surrounding national infrastructure, helping secure the world's marine estate, and developing our understanding of how to manage, conserve, and improve the health of our oceans. 🐟🪸🦅Our technology from Kongsberg Discovery contributes to discovering more about what is happening in the ocean space by mapping, monitoring, analyzing, and understanding the seabed, all life and activity in the water column, on the sea surface, and between sea and land. 🤔 What #challenges can #fieldwork hold? 🌧 As I found out this week in Dartmoor (Dartmoor National Park Authority), unforgiveable landscapes, challenging weather conditions and maintaining motivation when encountering unexpected obstacles can daunting. There were numerous times we second-guessed our navigation due to low mist and horizontal rain, ending up walking in the wrong direction or finding ourselves in peat bogs. 🗣 Some of the ways we were taught to overcome these challenges were quite simple. The first was to take a step back and assess a situation before attempting to negotiate the problem. If in a team, recognising what type of leader you are, whether you are a natural leader, detail-orientated or a people pleaser are all equally valid ways of leading a team. However, knowing your strengths and when you need step back before leaping in is essential in assessing a problem. 📝 Being aware of any forthcoming challenges allows you to prepare beforehand. As in the #polar regions, large areas of Dartmoor are known for communication blackouts caused by the surrounding geology, so having physical alternatives such as compasses, maps and knowing how to use them are vital. Keeping your calories up to prevent hypothermia was also necessary (despite it being summer!), so dehydrated meals were the best option after a long day on the moors. 🎒 It was a great learning curve and although I have been to Dartmoor before, I don't usually tend to hike out in such bad weather! It was a great preparation for the potential polar expeditions in the following years, and we learnt a lot from expedition leader Anthony Jinman, Plymouth's #mountainrescue and the Clean Planet Foundation over the week. #cleanplanet #expedition #cleanplanetpeninsulaproject #fieldwork

Back from vacation and hitting the ground running! 💼   Yesterday marked the return to work and the official end of vacation season for many, and our Portugal team at Hexagon Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial knows how to make it memorable. The day kicked off with a warm welcome gathering, where their amazing Country Manager (Domingos Lourenco) surprised them with hot, fresh "Pasteis de Nata" (yes, they were still warm! 😋). Nothing says "welcome back" like some delicious sweets, right?   But that wasn’t all! After a productive day of getting back into the swing of things, the guys laced up their sneakers for a friendly soccer match. ⚽ Let's just say...the field may have been small, but the fun was HUGE! Tons of goals, lots of laughs, and a unanimous agreement that pink might not be their best color choice for jerseys 😅. But hey, there were no major injuries, so they called that a win! 🏆   The best part? Everyone’s asking when they can do it again.
