This World Environment Day join Cheque Print Solutions in celebrating our planet. One theme of #worldenvironmentday is land restoration. The average tree yields enough pulp to produce 8,333 sheets of paper. Cheque Print Solutions is helping to reduce its carbon footprint by having a tree planted for every 8,000 pages printed. A little effort towards saving the environment is better than no effort. Check out the Cheque Print Solutions Green initiatives and learn about our recycling practices at https://lnkd.in/gwexMznV. Even small milestones can play a significant role contributing to environmental sustainability

Coffee cups, food packaging, paper bags, all go through multiple processes and yet we think they are ‘good’ packaging. And recycling them with food residue on them is not done. How about taking a Tupperware box with you next time you buy a take away lunch or when you go to your local Deli? If we can all be ‘bag, box and cup’ ready what a profound difference we would make to - and how good would we feel about - our planet impact?

We can't recycle our way out of this. We have to stop trashing our planet. 3 billion trees are cut down for paper packaging every year. At the same time, the EU wants to plant 3 billion new trees by 2030. We must change our single-use, throw-away culture. Instead of "just" focusing on recycling, here are other crucial concepts to work with: - refill - reuse - collect - reduce - recycle - eliminate - ecodesign PS.: Repost if people should see what's going on ♻. Think before you act, and then think it over a couple of times more. Especially when you are dealing with legislation and rules. We desperately need to reduce our global use of resources and cut heavily on our use of energy. Greenwashing is not the way to go. #ecology #economy #future

Here's a lovely video that compares two scenarios: reusable dishes and disposable food containers. But how about the numbers? Though I'm pretty sure that the scenario on the left (reusable dishes) is much better for the environment than the one on the right (disposables), I'd also like to make the case for proper life cycle analysis, math and numbers. If we fall in the trap of limiting ourselves to simplified, emotional videos, then "the other side" is allowed to do the same. The reusable scenario on the left involves the production of a dishwasher, cleaning dishes at high temperatures, detergents that go into the environment and the production of the reusable dishes in the first place. And even reusable dishes and the washing machine itself don't last forever. The disposable scenario on the right involves the destruction of trees, processing the materials, a lot of distribution and the waste to be processed as well. Recycled? Composted? Incinerated to generate electricity? Landfilled? And those trees; couldn't they just be replanted? Nice lush forests full of animal and plant life just because there's a business model for wood? (probably just "green deserts" practically void of high quality nature 🙄) The layman would not know which scenario to pick. And "the other side" could easily fabricate similar videos with a lot of emotion and few numbers just to make a convincing counterargument. If not in this case; than in another. An example: in my country The Netherlands a right-wing politician appealed to the gut feeling: "We must keep the taxes on gasoline low, or the poor won't be able to travel to their work!" While research showed, that lowering taxes on gasoline clearly benefits the rich much more than it does the poor. They have more cars, bigger cars and drive more. So if the goal was to help the needy, the measure of low taxes on gasoline is inefficient or even counterproductive. As the government now needs to raise its budget in some other way. So even though I love the visualisation in this video and my personal gut feeling tells me that indeed overall reusable dishes are much better for the environment, I'd also like to argue: add numbers. How do the Life Cycle Analyses of both case compare? What's the overall ecological footprint of either? (...and not in the least because my own "gut feeling" has deceived me once and again as an engineer. Like the time this Mr. Smartypants thought he could make a positive impact by developing a high tech solar cooker...) #sustainability #environment #visualisation
