I would like to highlight the needs of private practice in rural areas regarding hearing care. Hearing is one of those senses that get swept to the bottom of the list because rarely is there physical pain. What a sad turn of affairs, people who really need services cannot get them because our associations are more interested in promoting their causes as opposed to promoting our profession as a career goal: lt is difficult to get new applicants. When an average graduating Audiology class is 5 people, and the average number of new dispensers in our state is <5/year, our options for good hearing care are shrinking in the Midwest smaller cities. My city boasts 350k+ people and it often takes me 1-3 years before I get a suitable candidate to interview and hire (This includes both audiologists and dispensers.) I believe that all of our professional associations, including Hearing Aid Associations and Audiology Associations could do a better job working together to promote our profession. I call upon them to create bridges to work together. When I talk about promoting, I mean promoting new job and student candidates for audiology, hearing aid dispensing, and assistants as a potential career options. Advertising to young kids, and to high school students is not too young to open up this career possibility as a dream to help others. Our patients need reliable and ethical access to hearing healthcare in rural areas. We are lacking options. Please do your part to talk about career options in the fields of audiology and hearing aid dispensing. Thank you.

I typically keep my audiology content creation separate from my LinkedIn presence, but I think this video is a good exception. Audiology is an extremely opaque corner of healthcare. So many people don’t know who we are, what we do, when you’d need us, where to find us, or how we’d help them! As a profession, there is a lot of room for improvement in better educating the general public as well as our fellow healthcare providers. I make content to normalize hearing healthcare and to slip some education in with their entertainment. At times, I also poke fun at how absurd hearing healthcare can be. Prime example: this video uses the real names of different technology tiers by the major hearing aid manufacturers. As an audiologist, it’s tough to keep track of! As a consumer? It is nearly impossible. If we truly want to improve accessibility to hearing healthcare, we need to begin with transparency and education. People want to be informed consumers! Can we meet them halfway? Follow along on Instagram (@kathleenwallaceaud) and TikTok (@EarDocofTikTok) if you’d like to see some creative spins on audiology concepts and critiques! #hearingloss #hearing #audiology #audiologist #hearingaids #healthcare #patienteducation #contentcreation

What are the consequences of hearing loss? Most hearing loss is caused by the ageing process with about one-third of adults over the age of 65 having some hearing loss. This ageing of the ears usually affects our ability to hear soft, higher frequency sounds which results in the brain only receiving parts of speech thus being able to hear people talking but making it difficult to understand what they are saying. Poor hearing in adults can have a great impact at both a personal and a societal level. Hearing loss can impair our communication, thus significantly affecting everyday life, causing loneliness, social isolation, loss of independence, low self-esteem, having feelings of anxiety and/or depression and can lead to cognitive decline/onset of dementia. If you have any of the symptoms of hearing loss outlined on this page, then it is important to get your hearing tested as soon as possible. Innovator. Advisor. Presenter. Connector. Reshaping the future of Sound Health with forward-thinking approaches to Auditory health, accessibility and consumerism.
⚖The Impact of a 1% Shift in SOW to Hearing Aid Companies Imagine a 1% shift in the share of wallet towards new, disruptive companies in the hearing aid industry. This seemingly small change could trigger significant ripple effects throughout the industry, particularly when considering a continued cannibalization of the hearing aid market at a rate of 0.02% per year over the next decade or so. *Full disclosure, I have no idea what this shift will be and am only using these numbers as an example. Here’s what this shift could look like: 🔸 Innovation Surge: New companies bring fresh perspectives and technologies, pushing the industry to innovate and improve. This means better products and services for consumers, and a faster pace of technological advancement. 🔸 Impact on Employees: For employees of traditional hearing aid manufacturers, this shift could mean both opportunities and challenges. While there may be a risk of job displacement, there will also be new roles and skills required to support the evolving market, driving the need for continuous learning and adaptation. Be open to opportunities outside the mainstream hearing aid industry. 🔸 Private Clinics: Smaller private clinics might experience increased competition, necessitating a focus on unique value propositions, personalized patient care and expanded product offerings. Adopting new technologies and enhancing service quality will be crucial for their survival and growth. 🔸 Big Box Retail: Larger retailers could leverage their scale to integrate disruptive products into their offerings, providing consumers with more choices. This could enhance their market position but also require agility in adopting and marketing new technologies. The Broader Picture: A 1% shift might seem modest, but over a decade or so, compounded by a continued annual market share erosion for traditional players, the cumulative impact will be significant. It will drive a competitive landscape that encourages innovation, elevates consumer expectations, and reshapes the auditory health industry. 🚀 Let's embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead to create a dynamic, inclusive, and innovative future for auditory healthcare! #Audiology #CognitiveHealth #HearingCare #BeyondHearingAids #AuD #HearingHealth #Tinnitus #APD #audpeeps #hearingaids #audiologists #SoundHealth #SoundScape #Hearing #Noise #Audiologypractice

Is Family Centered Care (FCC) at the CORE of your practice patterns? Would your patients and practice benefit if it was moreso? ➡ Please invest a few moments to read and consider the importance of this article, in which Discussion comments: "This survey highlights that HCPs see many benefits to FCC and find it has a positive impact on their practice. The survey indicated that HCPs are likely to involve family members in aspects of an appointment if the HCP is comfortable doing so. Although 90% of HCPs reported being comfortable having a family member present at the appointment, many reported not being comfortable giving equal focus to client and family members or developing shared goals. Importantly, this survey highlights the areas where more work is needed in supporting HCPs to successfully implement comprehensive FCC." #familycentered #highperformance #patientexperience #communicationskills #competitiveadvantage

How many of you have faced a mistaken identity regarding our profession ? Hence,I wanted to pen down some thoughts and pre assumptions regarding my profession. 🍀I am not a Teacher but I do teach people how to speak fluently to those who have fluency problems while speaking e.g - stammering/Cluttering. 🍀I am not a Nurse but I assist elderly people in swallowing solids or liquids who have dysphagia ( A swallowing disorder). 🍀 I am not a Salesman but I prescribe, fit and program hearing aids through software installed in a system for those who have hearing loss among the population ranging from paediatrics to Geriatrics which may cost starting from 8k to 10lacs for each ear. 🍀I am not a voice coach but treat voices of people who have voice related problems e.g : vocal nodules, vocal polyp, vocal fold paralysis. 🍀I am not a Technician but do administer various tests through different types of instruments in order to diagnose hearing thresholds and hearing related disorders. . . But I am an Audiologist and Speech language pathologist sometimes mistaken as above mentioned professions. . . I do agree my designation is very lengthy but our work consists of variant types. #awarenessmatters #audiology #audiologist #speechlanguagepathology #speechtherapist #speechlanguagepathologist

Consistency is Key: Why Regular Speech Therapy Attendance is So Critical to Your Child’s Success. When it comes to speech therapy attendance, consistency really is essential. This is true no matter what the child’s condition or severity level. As Our Break Through Therapy Speech therapists can explain, while no two children may have the exact same needs in terms of frequency, duration, intensity, or length of treatment – the one thing all kids need with speech therapy is consistency. In fact, consistency is so important that it’s better for kids to attend fewer sessions with less frequency than to have more sessions with less consistency. Among the ways that consistency in attendance at speech therapy can help children make better – faster – progress: Developing a routine. When kids know what they can expect each time, it can ease anxieties and frustrations. Less time is spent re-establishing trust or explaining the rules – creating an atmosphere that’s more fun, engaging, and more effective. Ultimately, that’s more energy that can be spent working on their goals. Build better relationships. Therapy can be hard work. Children really have to challenge themselves. Trust between a patient and therapist is so important – especially in 1:1 sessions. A child who consistently shows up is going to walk in with warmer feelings – and more ready to learn – when they feel safe and comfortable and happy with the person they’re spending time with. That kind of a relationship gets built over time – and consistency is really important to making it happen. More effective individualized support. Speech therapy sessions are tailored to the individual needs of the child, and regular attendance can help the therapist to monitor the child’s progress and adjust their therapy plan as needed. This personalized support can help the child to address their specific communication challenges and make steady progress. Practice and feedback. Speech therapy involves a lot of practice and feedback, and regular attendance allows the child to receive consistent opportunities to practice their communication skills and to receive feedback from the therapist. This can help the child to develop their skills more quickly and to address any issues or challenges that arise along the way. Reinforcement. Regular attendance at speech therapy can also help to reinforce the child’s progress and to encourage them to continue working on their communication skills outside of therapy. The therapist can provide positive reinforcement for the child’s achievements and help them to set goals for future progress, which can motivate the child to continue making progress over time. #speechtherapy #speechlanguagepathology #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #occupationaltherapystudent #occupationaltherapyforkids #speechtherapist
