**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE** 10-17-2024 Carmen Bucco Congressional Candidate District 10 NJ Bucco For New Jersey cbucco@carmenbucco.com www.carmenbucco.com 908-499-0117 --- I urge State Lawmakers to Prioritize Education and Prevent Teacher Layoffs Today, I call upon state lawmakers to prioritize the future of our children by preventing teacher layoffs. With the challenging repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic already impacting educational progress, any further disruptions will exacerbate learning loss and could significantly harm our children’s educational outcomes. During the pandemic, students faced unprecedented challenges that hindered their learning experiences, resulting in widespread learning deficits. In light of this, it is crucial that we maintain our dedicated workforce of educators, who are integral to fostering the growth and development of our youth. Teacher layoffs would lead to increased class sizes, decreased individual student attention, and ultimately, more learning loss. Our children have already faced significant educational setbacks due to COVID-19. They cannot afford the additional loss of resources and attention that larger class sizes would entail. It is imperative that we stop failing our children by ensuring they receive the quality education they deserve," said Carmen Bucco I urge state legislators to make informed decisions that support our teachers and uphold the integrity of our educational system. It is through maintaining strong support for our educators that we can secure a brighter, more equitable future for all children. "We must stand resolute with our teachers, valuing their contributions and ensuring that our children’s learning environment is safeguarded from further disruption. @followers @highlight #EssexCounty #EssexCountyNJ #p #Eastorange #EssexfellsNJ #IrvingtonNJ #Montclair #Montclair #MontclairNJ #Newark #NewarkNJ #OrangeNJ #Verona #VeronaNJ #WestOrangeNJ #JerseyCity #JerseyCityNJ #CranfordNJ #KenilworthNJ #LindenNJ #RoselleNJ #RoselleParkNJ #UnionNJ #standwithourheros #BuccoForCongress #PeopleOverPolitics #NJEA

Many school districts struggle to hire special education professionals. During the 2020-21 school year, 40% of public schools that had a special education teaching vacancy reported that they either found it very difficult to fill the position, or were not able to do so. School choice options like CFEF can benefit special needs students tremendously! #CFEfund #educationaladvocacy #scholarship #bettereducation

Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates opened the most recent bargaining session by demanding more "sustainable community schools." It's Chicago's worst-performing schooling model. She praised Beidler Elementary School as an example. Beidler spends $20,000 per student for only 2% math proficiency. Less than 9% of students at Beidler can read at grade level. Student proficiency at Chicago's "sustainable community schools" is far below the district average, which is itself infamously abysmal. In the clip below, Gates makes the claim that sustainable community schools "by all accounts are working." There are exactly no accounts by which the model is working. Recall that CTU is actively waging war on Chicago's selective enrollment schools, which is where high-achieving minority students are thriving. CTU wants to rip those students out of those schools and force them into failing ones in the name of "equity." Jump into the comments for the data. #education #publicschool

The Chicago Board of Education voted to remove School Resource Officers (#SROs) - Chicago Police - from city schools. This move was backed by the Chicago Teachers Union. How long before "buyer's remorse" sets in from this decision? #Schoolleaders only need to look to Denver and many other cities that pulled SROs from schools after the George Floyd murder. Many are struggling to return them back into schools as #schoolsecurity problems steadily increase and #teachers, #principals, #parents, and #students become increasingly frustrated. #Schoolsafety best practices need to be prioritized over political decisions.

We see the segregation affect of exclusionary zoning and the housing crisis clearly, but tackling this issue through land use or fair housing law has been tricky. However, the disparate affects are so acute that a new avenue has reawakened; school segregation. In the last thirty years schools have grown more, not less segregated. With the pathways laid out by Brown v The Board of Education, perhaps we have some potential for change here.

The United States Commission on Civil Rights Business Meeting! I was very pleased and proud to share with the USCCR the Report of the Nevada Advisory Committee addressing Teacher and Professional Staff Shortages and Equity in Education. This report draws on the themes identified in the Committee’s 2020-21 study, “The Impact of Remote Learning on Education Equity in Nevada,” which examined education equity during the COVID-19 pandemic. That study revealed, among other findings, that severe shortages of professionals offering mental health and special education services put Nevada’s school districts at risk of litigation due to civil rights violations. Among our findings: Over reliance on long term substitute teachers can result in gaps in student learning, The shortage of in-school behavioral health professionals poses concerns as school violence is increasing, and Shortages of teacher and professional staff are especially high in rural areas of the state, and recruitment of these professionals is especially challenging. The Nevada Committee made recommendations to the USCCR, U.S. Secretary of Education, the Nevada Governor, Nevada School Superintendents, and the Nevada Legislatiure. Thank you to the Nevada Advisory Committee for your ongoing dedication and hard work. #SondraCosgrove #KennethDalton #CarolDelCarlo #DavidEdelblute #DebraFeemster #DavidFott #AugustaMassey #TheresaNavarro #RudyPamintuan #DavidSexton https://lnkd.in/eHRz9Rht
