🌍💡 Petra Härmälä, Ida Koivisto and Kristiina Ahonen joined the BOOST kick-off in Espoo, selected as Europe's second city of innovation in the European Commission's Capital of Innovation Awards 2024! 🚀 BOOST! is about boosting the performance of bio-based functional nonwovens and is a co-innovation project powered by Business Finland and coordinated by VTT. The event brought together an inspiring mix of research partners, like VTT and Tampere University of Applied Sciences, and several companies — including Mirka — to discuss the project and its work packages: 🦾 Strengthening strategies for sustainable raw material feedstocks ♻️Carded nonwovens made from recycled and biobased materials ⚙️ Enabling technologies, and nonwovens from industrial residues 🔬 Up-scaling from lab to pilot 🤝 Customer acceptance towards new sustainable nonwovens "It was nice that so many people could participate on site and it gave us the opportunity to get to know each other a little bit more and to jointly discuss about the details and implementation of the project plan," says Petra. Today the CDTI Innovación - Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación celebrated the National #InfoDay on this year's WP of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), hosted by Jose Manuel GONZALEZ VICENTE and Marta de Diego. So much useful information, wrapped up by Pilar Llorente Ruiz de Azua in these bullet points describing a successful proposal: 1. Ensure that the proposed work is within the #scope of the topic. 2. Demonstrate that the idea is #ambitious and goes beyond the state of the art. 3. Your #methodology must take into account open science practices and interdisciplinarity (+gender dimension, if applicable). 4. Show clearly how the proposed work could contribute to the #outcomes and #impacts described in the work programme (the pathway to impact). 5. Describe the planned measures to maximise the #impact of the project ('plan for dissemination & exploitation including communication activities'). 6. Demonstrate the quality of the #implementation, including work plan, resources and participants. In the session it was clearly stated that the focus is shifting towards industrial, scale-up, close-to-market innovation, and we are Hub de la Bioeconomia de Catalunya [BioHubCat] are fully aligned to this mission.

Last week, I had an enriching visit to FME in Zoetermeer for a session on internationalization in the agrifood sector. It was truly inspiring to see innovation being driven on a global scale while promoting fair and free trade. Was great to hear about talks from Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials, Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) and NLWorks.   🏋️ It was very interesting to hear from Gert Stiekema about Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials‘ efforts to strengthen Dutch competitiveness, with a clear emphasis on boosting research and innovation. The importance of international collaboration for fostering innovation was a key insight.    🔬 Later, Bert van der Heide from Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) showcased their diverse R&D collaborations, including the impactful "HortiRoad2India" project, highlighting Dutch technology's role in elevating Indian horticulture to high-tech standards. Great to see Dutch technology being pushed in different continents!    🌱 Wrapping up, Daniel da Costa shared insights on NLWorks’ various partnership programs in the US, including the transformative University of Kentucky project. The collaboration with Wageningen University & Research resulting in a sustainable Hortifood ecosystem was particularly inspiring.    My key take-away of these sessions was the crucial role of international collaboration when driving innovation, as well as having the right technology to do so.     Struggling to incorporate digital technologies?
