Meteorologists are predicting that the 2024 #hurricaneseason will be one of the most active on record. 🌀 ⛈ With significant numbers of people and homes in the path of dangerous floods and other climate-driven disasters like wildfires, how can decisionmakers work to minimize future harm? 🏘 Today, the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies released a report that names #climatechange as a driver of the country’s housing crisis. Carlos Martin, a university fellow at Resources for the Future and a director at the center, shares his thoughts on how to support #communities that are especially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

In the ensuing years, climate change is projected to heighten the occurrence of severe hurricanes impacting coastal cities and communities. In an effort to aid these vulnerable areas in preparing for forthcoming storms, scientists from MIT have pioneered a methodology to forecast probable flood levels that a seaside community may endure as hurricane patterns transform over successive decades. Global FLOOD | Technologies Will Save MILLIONS of Lives! 🟢 rumble.com/v5dsg1w-global… 🔴 youtu.be/ZU4jajrzFaE This week, the planet was literally submerged. One flood shocked local residents because it occurred in a highly unusual place. Today, we'll also explain why such unprecedented rainfall and powerful floods are happening and answer the question of how they can be stopped. All the details are in the weekly review of climate disasters that took place on the planet from August 21 to 27. Currently, there is a technology in the world that can help save millions of lives. Detailed information is available in the documentary film "Water from Air | The Path to Saving Humanity" (rumble.com/v4xi7l8-water-…) #creativesociety #monday #wisdom #trending #TrendingNow #trendingpost #trendingvideo #viral2024 #September2024

The mountainous communities of North Carolina were once considered low-risk from extreme weather. Helene has changed all of that. While the immediate focus in the wake of Hurricane Helene is on recovery and relief, its damage is most severe in places where people were neither expecting nor well prepared for a tropical deluge. That includes, in particular, mountainous North Carolina, where flood waters swept away entire neighborhoods, downed power and water systems, and crushed roads that connected residents. Helene’s rapid intensification and stunning destruction in places once considered “climate havens” revealed what scientists have long warned are stark vulnerabilities in American infrastructure and policy at a time when global warming is exacerbating extreme weather. The storm’s aftermath has also highlighted the sort of resilience experts say will be needed to rebuild and prepare for a warmer future. The Christian Science Monitor's Stephanie Hanes and Stephanie Castellano look at the need to prepare for risks in new places. The scientific consensus on hurricanes, which isn't covered by breathless climate reporting, is that humans have had no detectable impact on hurricanes over the past century. #climatechange #climate #hurricanes #globalwarming #hurricaneseason

People enjoyed living near water and climate change will make them run away from it - unfortunately, the data for the 100-yr flood zone is a snapshot of the past 100 years and not what is expected in the next 100 years. Design Flood Elevation was a way to compensate for that fact and to add it as a safety measure. And if Inland flood is +2 feet, coastal communities will have +5 feet flood elevation - aka CAFE part of the REAL. Inland Flood Protection Rule https://lnkd.in/eRQRbF8K
An analysis by the NJ Climate Change Resource Center shows a glimpse of who and what are potentially impacted within the NJDEP’s new Design Flood Elevation. #NJclimate #NJADAPT #Rutgers #NJclimatechange

Last Friday, I experienced an earthquake for the first time. It was unsettling, and not something I'd want to experience again. Fortunately, no major damage was reported throughout the NYC metro area. However, it doesn't change the fact that extreme weather events are happening with more frequency and severity throughout the world, including Europe. With that thought in mind, my colleagues at Milliman have published the annual Extreme Weather in Europe report today, analyzing the impact of droughts, floods, and other 2023 events.
