I fell upon an interview on Good Morning Britain on 26th February 2024 and sat their flabbergasted. https://lnkd.in/eTF2Br-7 An Indeed poll reported 8 in 10 young people, between 18 (generation Z) and under 39’s (millennials) are completely blanking employers and NOT turning up for scheduled interviews! As a data point you must just let that one sink in to understand the ramifications to employers, the job market, recruiters, and the entire way we engage with candidates. 80% of respondents felt it was ok NOT to attend, NOT to contact the employer/hiring manager/recruiter and effectively ghosted the employer!  It was reported that respondents found this behaviour ‘empowering’? During the interview a live poll asked, ‘is it acceptable to not show up for a job interview?’  12% of respondents said it was ok not to attend whilst 88% said they would contact the employer and cancel. My assumption here is that the breakfast audience has a much wider demography hence the pendulum swing in the response. Nonetheless, when I ask a TA team to walk me through the time to fill data, and the lack of traction on a role this survey and interview will be ringing in my ears, and I’ll be a lot more open to resourcing requests for the TA team!  This is costing business significantly, in what is right now an employer’s market, how does this scale in a candidate driven market?

1 hour tailoring a resume 1 hour repeating the info in a form 4 rounds of interviews 3 months to hear back Most job seekers are going through these numbers. What sets successful employers apart is their approach to the hiring process. They ask questions internally after the first interview round. They proactively evaluate internal vs external costs of hiring They acknowledge candidates' time, send simple updates, and genuinely care about the people who invest in them.
