If you are getting a bit bored by the speeches at the UN General Assembly, then spend your time watching Dark Waters instead. It features powerfully understated performances by Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, and Tim Robbins.
The story is about forever chemicals. Yes, the forever chemicals that cause cancers, birth defects, infertility in humans, animls, and undoubtedly plants too for the simple reason that they can never be broken down, hence the name. That makes them spread everywhere and accumulate until they become toxic no matter how you try to avoid them. No point worrying about it then, you are doomed.
It is also a story about poacher turned game keeper. And, it is about not backing down.

Tom Petty's lyrics closes the film. Rob Billott declares in it,
"The system is rigged. They want us to think it'll protest us. But that's a lie. We protect us. We do. Nobody else."
And so if you enjoy the film then don't bother flipping back to the speeches. The governments are all part of the system that is rigged. It's not just the forever chemicals; it's also climate change, it's about war, it's about all the things that they say, hey, I'm making a speech at the UN about.
The same big businesses and governments are promoting ways to forget about all these issues. War is hugely favourable to countries that make weapons. War also runs on oil, gas and coal.
The UN General Assembly will be the opening salvo for a new offensive by the oil, gas, and coal industry, "We'll protect you. But they won't."
Sadly, there will be more businesses siding with them. Yes, there will be more science panels "proving" that's overshot is the only way left to go. Overshot is old the forever chemicals. They start overshot forever.
The businesses and panels will advice governments. Those who have oil, gas, and coal reserve will lap it up. Those without will trade their immediate survival for any money offered. Failing that? War. the oil, gas, and coal industry will lap that up.
"The system is rigged. They want us to think it'll protest us. But that's a lie. We protect us. We do. Nobody else... not the companies, not the scientists, not the government. A farmer with a twelve grade education told me that on day one, and I thought he was crazy. Isn't that crazy?"
