June Image of the Month: Choroidal Osteoma Choroidal osteomas are classified as choristomas, normal tissue in an abnormal location. They are typically present in the posterior pole, commonly peripapillary, as a yellow-white to orange choroidal lesion representing a tumor in which mature bone replaces the normal choroid. If the tumor is not macular, the patient is often asymptomatic. Diagnosis is often confirmed by the presence of calcific ossification on B-scan ultrasound or CT scan. Most are observed without treatment. Lesions can be associated with the development of CNV, which can be treated if they arise.
