As artificial intelligence algorithms continue to be refined, they will likely be able to detect subtle changes in the eye that could go unnoticed by clinicians. This could aid in early diagnosis and treatment decisions. Read more in this article from our imaging issue: https://lnkd.in/eFiVydKG

The US healthcare computer vision market is set to grow from $2.5bn in 2024 to $9.9bn in 2034 with a key driver being diagnostic imaging. It seems the US government will be pushing hard for the introduction of AI across the healthcare system however recent surveys suggested 60% of Americans would "feel uncomfortable if their own healthcare provider relied on AI to do things like diagnose disease" so how realistic is that market growth 🤔

🚀 Paper Review: MedKlip - Enhancing X-ray Diagnosis with AI 🚀 I recently reviewed an exciting paper presented at ICCV 2023: MedKlip. This innovative work leverages AI to simplify medical report analysis and improve X-ray diagnosis. 🌟 🔍 Key Insights: Challenge: Understanding complex medical jargon and aligning it with X-ray images. Solution: Combining ResNet-50 for visual encoding, ClinicalBERT for text encoding, and a transformer-based fusion module. Impact: Achieves superior performance in identifying and localizing diseases compared to state-of-the-art models. 📊 Results: MedKlip significantly improves diagnostic accuracy on datasets like RSNA Pneumonia and ChestX-ray14, setting a new benchmark in medical imaging. For a detailed read, check out the paper review below. #AI #MachineLearning #MedicalImaging #HealthcareInnovation #ICCV2023

Pump the AI brakes. Data found in EHRs “are only as good as their curation and consistency,” the authors warned. Without clean and accurate information, in other words, even the most advanced algorithm will struggle to make accurate predictions. “AI/ML should augment and support clinical decision-making rather than replace clinical judgement needed for evidence-based practice. However, to realize this potential, AI/ML analytics must be presented to clinicians through intuitive and interpretable human-computer interfaces that enhance user trust and integrate with existing clinical workflows.” As an #icunurse I am interested in contributing to the design, integration, and usability testing of #ai enabled clinical tools at #mayoclinic. Ensuring AI tools are being designed and tested by an array of domain specific end-users including #criticalcare nurses and #alliedhealthprofessionals is vital to establishing trust. As any experienced healthcare professional will tell you, you must show how much you care before your patient cares how much you know…(except in a code, then they might prefer you know ACLS and CALS).
A new scientific statement from the American Heart Association explored the many ways artificial intelligence and machine learning are being used to improve care for heart patients. The document's writing group also explored the many factors that researchers should consider going forward to help these technologies thrive.

7moWhile I agree that AI is a powerful tool, and especially in this case would help (pre-)processing diagnostic data and therefore could help with efficiency, what's very important in my opinion is that the "H" in HITL is emphasized at all times, and we don't gradually source out responsibility and decision-making.
