Why biodynamic gardening speaks to me as a a holistic practitioner 👩🌾 It’s about looking at your garden and land as a whole being. And how we can create and environment where every element is helping improve the overall fertility, without the need for chemical fertilisers. You can start doing this by integrating animals, creating your own compost and adding plant diversity. It resonates with my values as a health practitioner. I look for ways clients can integrate and supplement natural diversity into their diet. The goal is to reduce the need to introduce artificial chemicals into our bodies. I believe that, just like a biodynamic garden, our body has the innate potential to fertilise and flourish on its own. One key principle to grasp is understanding when and how to prune for optimal results. Timing Matters: Pruning at the right time of the year is paramount. For deciduous trees, winter is often ideal when they are dormant. However, spring is preferable for many flowering species. Evergreens can be pruned in late winter or early spring. Purposeful Cuts: Each cut should serve a purpose. Remove dead or diseased branches to prevent the spread of infections. Thinning cuts help enhance air circulation, reducing the risk of fungal diseases. Strategic cuts also contribute to maintaining a tree's natural shape and balance. Tools of the Trade: Employing the right tools is as essential as the technique itself. Sharp, clean cuts heal faster and minimize stress on the tree.
