Organic agriculture is more resilient than conventional farming methods and therefore better equipped to deal with climate change. Usually, organic farms suffer lower yield losses under extreme weather conditions than conventional farms. This is due, among other things, to the higher humus content and a more varied crop rotation. We spoke to experts Werner Vogt-Kaute from Naturland - Association for Organic Agriculture and Sigried Griese from Bioland e.V. about the challenges farmers are facing and adaptation strategies they can use to deal with climate change. The US has witnessed a dramatic rise in factory farming, with the number of animals raised for food doubling since the late 1980s. Mega factory farms, dominating the landscape, now house the majority of chickens, pigs, and cows. These facilities, however, pose significant environmental and ethical challenges, including pollution and animal suffering. Despite the efficiency gains of industrialized agriculture, the true costs, such as mass cruelty and ecological degradation, remain unaccounted for.
