Healthy soil is business critical. That’s why we’re partnering with farmers and suppliers to introduce agricultural practices that not only protect the soil but also restore and replenish it.    Now, results from our first regenerative agriculture projects show positive change is starting to grow with:  🌾 Less methane in our rice fields in Arkansas, USA   🐝 More pollinators in our tomato fields in Badajoz, Spain   👩🌾 523 soy famers committed to our cover crop programme in Iowa, USA    And this is just the beginning.     We’re planning on having more than 100 regenerative agriculture projects in the field by 2030.    Read the full results here: https://lnkd.in/em7DmNFi #UnileverInsights   

🌱 Great Harvesting Season at Exomad Green! 🌱 We are thrilled to keep sharing the incredible results from our latest harvest season. This marks the first time we've been able measure the impact of our biochar on different crops since we began operations, and the data is exciting! We've experimented with our biochar on various crops and soils, and the results speak for themselves. Across the board, plots treated with biochar have yielded significantly higher results: ➡ Potato Yields: Increased from 25.6 Tons/Ha to 31.1 Tons/Ha (21.5% increase) ➡ Bean Yields: Increased from 57 Q/Ha to 70 Q/Ha (22.8% increase) ➡ Onion Yields: Increased from 31.1 Tons/Ha to 37.6 Tons/Ha (20.9% increase) These findings highlight an often overlooked benefit of biochar. While its carbon sequestering abilities are well-known, the co-benefits for agriculture and soil enhancement are unique and highly valuable. We are very excited about these results and look forward to continuing our work in enhancing agricultural productivity while promoting sustainable practices. In basic terms, regenerative agriculture focuses on improving soil health through food production, but the specifics can be complicated. The need for a clear definition is up for debate, even though our 2021 Spotlight on Regenerative Agriculture outlined five key principles. Some have suggested adding 'context' as a sixth principle, though this idea has not been widely embraced. During the recent Future of UK Agriculture conference, a variety of stakeholders, including farmers, buyers, and researchers, discussed the importance of a universal definition for regenerative agriculture. More than half of the 79 participants agreed that a broad, flexible, and inclusive definition that is easy to understand is essential. While a universal definition is seen as crucial to prevent misleading claims and support marketing efforts, the unique conditions of each farm mean that production systems must be adapted and complex. This has led to calls for flexibility and the consideration of context as a fundamental principle in regenerative agriculture. Read more:
