"𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒋𝒐𝒃." -𝑩𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑩𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒌 Early in my career I was like any 20-something. I spent too much time worrying about everything that I couldn't control. How in the world will I get to this title? This isn't how it was taught in school. What project can I take to show out? Why didn't I get the promotion? All of it was a distraction, noise, thoughts that took away from the job at hand. I needed a swift kick. Once I matured a quote that stuck with me is one that championship head coach Bill Belichick always says. "𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛." Simple, straight to the point. It emphasizes that everyone has a job on the team. While some days the job makes you the playmaker, other days you're the supporting cast. If you do your job (whatever that may be) to the best of your ability the trust is built, the team wins, the customer wins even more. We're all human and our minds can wander. That's expected. But I constantly tell myself that if I stick to this mentality every day, do my job. Do my job to the best of my ability and win the day. How do you do that? ❕ Look at the background, job history, and the moves that they have made. ⭐ Think about questions that are specifically related to the person you are going to be meeting with. ❕ Go into that call with 3-6 questions you specifically want to know about that person. ⭐ This will show that you've done your homework. ❔ What went into some of the decisions that they made going from one team to another? ❔ What were some things that surprised them when they took on XYZ's role? ❔ What experiences helped prepare them the most? Here’s some information that I found really helpful in my first week as an intern for the Las Vegas Aviators, which I’d like to pass along to others who aspire to work in sports as well! 1.) It’s not all about the logo. Everyone aspires to work for the four major leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL. However finding a workplace where you truly fit in and where colleagues feel like family can be far more rewarding and impactful for your personal and professional growth. 2.) Networking is Key. Take every opportunity to connect with anyone you meet, you never know what future opportunities might arise! 3.) Be different. In such a competitive field, take the opportunity to stand out! During my first week, I heard many stories about how others got their first opportunities in the sports world by thinking outside the box and demonstrating their unique qualities. Don’t be afraid to set yourself apart; your individuality can be your greatest asset!
