Sometimes we have to be adaptive to expectations. One example of how we, as westerners, needed to adapt to cultural norms that evolved in the early days of our community meetings with the locals. There was the expectation that, as organisers, we were to provide food for these meetings, it was like a given kind of unwritten rule, and that people were more likely to attend, as we weren’t providing any money, at that time at least. This then led to the inevitable discussions and difficult decisions as to what kind of food we are going to provide, to the extent that this kept Teresa (co-founder and CEO) and I and all the boNGO members awake at night, thinking through what we should provide, and because that really mattered to the locals. It really was something that was giving us a big headache. Then we had to make something feasible, money-wise, while also healthy. And so we found ourselves, boNGO management, personally walking to the market, buying huge bags of bananas between us, like really 50 kg bags of bananas and fruit, up the hill in the heat, questioning ourselves, is this development work? We thought we're going to deliver some new teaching strategies to the teachers, but actually what took more time initially was thinking through what (food) we should provide, and then bringing that food on our own shoulders from the market back to the village. But this paid dividends and established greater attendance and ultimately collaboration with the locals. #CharityMalawi #Charity

Hope4 just got Limited In another milestone moment, my beautiful wife Zoe Lomas and I opened a Limited Company in Moldova, called, unsurprisingly, Hope4. Hope4 Business is apart of the new initiative to take direct action to help fund Hope4❤️'s meteoric growth, without diluting a single penny of your incredible support. Most of my career has been spent in Foodservice, working my way up through the ranks where I became UK Sales Manager for Portion Solutions Limited formerly Single Source, before starting my own company which saw me venture onto the BBC2's Dragons' Den. Armed with this knowledge, and in conjunction with Hope4's Chief Strategy Officer, Ryan Singlehurst, I have accepted the position of UK & European Sales Director for Clear Cook. Ryan's vision is for Clear Cook to directly fund Hope4's growth and allow us to burst through the glass ceiling that's prevented our numeric growth, placing increasing pressure on our small, yet incredible team. My job will be to recruit an international sales team across the UK, Europe and Australia, who will be responsible for selling Clear Cook's catering solution into the entire Foodservice industry. Yes this will place huge demands on my time, but it falls squarely in my new role, focusing on traditional and, in this case at least, non-traditional ways to raise funds. This is what sets Hope4 apart, creating undeniable links between business and philanthropy, ensuring your support is deployed in the most ethical way possible, and not as a way of financing corporate lifestyles. The Clear Cook solution is incredible; a simple, yet highly-effective way of addressing the common issue that faces every single catering establishment in the world. This week, the concept of vulnerability has been a constant companion, highlighting the range of emotions it can bring to the surface—from feelings of hurt and anger to confusion and a sense of loss. My journey has included moments of personal rejection and professional feedback that labeled me as distant, unfriendly, and lacking in values, and being told I am ungrateful when asking for my piece at the negotiating table; each instance challenging my resilience and prompting me to FALL into the essence of vulnerability. How do I navigate these tumultuous waters of emotion? By opening my heart, fostering a sense of gratitude, and maintaining belief even in moments of DOUBT. It is within this vulnerable space that I've connected with others—friends seeking solace and former employees grappling with financial challenges. This collective vulnerability fostered a bond of empathy and understanding, emphasizing the significance of compassion in my interactions. The insights gained from embracing my vulnerability have been profoundly enriching, filling me with gratitude, joy, and renewed faith. This week has underscored the value of being open and creating supportive, uplifting connections amidst my challenges. Without facing these difficulties this week, I wouldn’t have experienced the profound impact of vulnerability. It serves as a reminder that vulnerability is not a weakness but rather a reflection of our shared human experience and one of the most potent sources of strength in leadership. I am deeply grateful to the SBA for recognizing my contributions, offering their support ceaselessly, and affirming my worthiness to compete in a room full of men, challenge groupthink and social norms, and RISE when others want to see me fall.
