Mōrena, and Happy Tuesday which means newsletter day! 🌞 This week we reflect on the tangible potential for radical climate action - simple yet impactful changes we could literally implement tomorrow! Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending a Climate Fresk Aotearoa workshop (hosted by our very own Emily Sutton), where we delved into climate science in a collaborative, gamified format. 💡 What amazed me most was the spectrum of ideas and opportunities for action that emerged when we put our heads together. From knowing where our strengths lie to help transition to passive low-carbon buildings, or supporting farmers as custodians of the land; the solutions are within our reach. 💪 The challenge is not so much a technical one, but rather social and political. What we need to do now is prioritize these straightforward actions and push for the changes needed to make them a reality. A bit over 10 years ago, I was living in a small inner city place with Tom Maclachlan Sam McLean and Amanda McKenzie. I remember seeing Amanda working hard through days and nights; busy, tireless... determined. They all said to me "brace, this is going to be big". I don't think at the time I quite understood the scale of what Amanda was about to kick-start. But I certainly can see that now. Climate Council (thanks to its thousands of supporters, staff, and councilors) spent the last 10 years building a powerful media machine that would never compromise on the need to tell the truth about our climate science. To speak louder than governments, and vested interests. They stopped the wave of misinformation and brought trusted advice and science to the public. Thanks to all that, we are now at the point where profound action is possible... and profound action is coming. Tom Maclachlan and GoodChat had the honor of being there from the very beginning - finding and telling the stories when it felt like 'just hope', before we could see how it would all pan out. Now it's my turn to help amplify these stories, and like back then, I don't know that I fully understand the scale of what's to come. But, please, let's bring on the next 10 years of #climateaction https://lnkd.in/gATYFNgE

As climate change and its harmful effects accelerate, so too does the urgency for effective climate action. Join Peter Dugas, the Maine State Coordinator for Citizens' Climate Lobby, for this interactive #climate policy workshop using MIT Sloan School of Management's EN-ROADS Climate Policy Simulator to explore our current climate trajectory, how recent legislation has improved our long-term outlook, and how Maine — the only state in the world’s largest economy with both senators (Sen. Angus King and Sen. Susan Collins) on the bipartisan Senate Climate Solutions Caucus — can lead the nation and world in advocating a stabilized climate and a sustainable future. When it comes to #climatejustice, do you think the focus should be shifted even further towards collective action? 💬 Georg Blokus, educator and Berlin Hub director at European Alternatives, emphasizes the lasting importance of collective action in addressing climate issues, as it enables communities to pool resources, share knowledge, and advocate for #systemicchange on a larger scale. During the 2023 Allianz Foundation Summit, Blokus shared insights from his experience in the field. Learn more about our projects on #climatejustice here: https://lnkd.in/dnE7qcaN
