Our oceans, despite making up a majority of the Earth's total water surface area, still remain largely unexplored. Since they play a significant role in the maintenance of the global ecosystem, understanding the multitude and complex nature of stressors on its environment is a crucial need of the hour. As part of the Global Data Science Challenge in 2021, we partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for a project that enhanced data collection and analysis processes for the Lofoten-Vesterålen Ocean Observatory (LoVe Ocean) through #AI and #MachineLearning - based solutions. Thanks to this collaboration, LoVe Ocean was empowered to lead the conversation around how the oceans are changing and can be protected. My favorite GPT-4o use case: My 5 year old asked me “are aliens real?” I gave my answer but it didn’t seem to satisfy her. So I opened up GPT-4o and she had a full 5-minute conversation with the app that explored the possibility of alien life, planets in our solar system, and the ability to celebrate birthday parties on Mars. She was engaged, curious, and more knowledgeable by the end of the conversation with the app. Mark my words: This is the future of education.
