Your job as an actor is to give up yourself for the character, to surrender to it and devote yourself to its needs. The creative act happens in the void of creation, where nothing else exists, but your presence. Creation comes from nothing. Therefore, it is really about making sure that your instrument has been taken care of so you feel completely present, free, and instinctive. It is about not knowing what’s going to happen next. You need to be able to show up with whatever is going on at the moment, without repressing any of your feelings and sensations. You are a channel for the character to exist. Therefore, you need to allocate your energy to defend your character’s needs. #actingtips #acting #actor #actorsuccess

🎬 Navigating criticism is an essential skill for actors and creatives, as it can shape or shatter one's career. It's important to distinguish between destructive criticism from embittered individuals, who may project their own frustrations, and constructive feedback from well-meaning critics or teachers. While harsh critics are inevitable, even for renowned actors like Meryl Streep and Keanu Reeves, handling criticism with poise is key. Actors must learn to reject toxic negativity without being consumed by praise, maintaining a balanced approach that supports both emotional resilience and artistic growth. Ultimately, choosing whose opinions to value and whose to ignore is crucial for success in the industry. By focusing on growth and perseverance, actors can thrive amidst the noise of criticism. This balance between repelling harmful critique and embracing useful feedback is vital for a long, healthy career. ✅ Check out all of our classes here: https://lnkd.in/gurCrSXY 🔥 Would you like audit a free class just to test the waters first? Entering the acting business is tough and yet is a fantastic career if you're a self-starter who enjoys a demanding yet rewarding field. Many people who entered the acting profession with hopes of becoming famous have been let down, as the majority of performers genuinely like what they do. Even though performing can be uncertain at times, particularly in the beginning, it is feasible to support oneself entirely through acting, given that you’ve balanced putting in the work and are doing it for the right reasons. Actors such as Bonginkosi Mashilo and Sthembiso Kunene are examples of people who have succeeded through hard work. DGA Director | Executive Producer at Buddy Bear Adventures LLC | Independent Film Producer | DGA Assistant Director
Dear actors - I heard a great quote today from a producing colleague of mine. "Don't give casting directors homework". - Pamela Dunlap (working actor) What does that mean? Don't burden or overwhelm casting directors with unnecessary or excessive tasks or information. If a breakdown requests tape (film, performance) that the casting director or director / producers can readily watch, then provide it. Everyone is shooting selfies for Insta, TikTok , YouTube etc. - how difficult is it to turn the camera on yourself and record a monologue or a scene from on of your favorite films or tv shows?. If you don't, you're at risk of the casting director passing right over your submission. Also, when providing images (head shots) make sure it's current. I have seen actors submit headshots that look 10 years and even 15 years younger than their current reality. You can cheat a few years, but a decade, not so much. https://lnkd.in/gYgZXkz5 Good luck submitting.

"Is there something I can do for you" - acting lesson from Tom Hanks You may think you have a small part. Just one or two lines. Recently, Tom Hanks coached aspiring actors at Oxford to focus on one line "Is there anything I can do for you?". This line can fall flat or rise to the stars. He said actors should "stretch the concept of the empathetic moment and say things so beautifully and so truthfully and so accurately and so real that even if their only line "is there something I can do for you?" - you can move mountains." The same advice goes towards all professions. Do your part. Do it well. Check out the full acting class here: https://lnkd.in/euFY8A2m
