Starting a new series of posts #reviewing holy cow truths of hotel channel strategy and driving more revenue to hotels on direct channels with #HotelChannelChutzpah! Today, let's talk about how we get fixated on segments and channel categories, forgetting that these are just a means to an end. What matters more is knowing the profile of guests staying at the hotel, what they're traveling for and how they book the room. For eg. if the customer journey started was hinged around a local travel agent there is a good chance that the revenue is booked via a GDS or a Bedbank in case of a package booking. In case, the guest is comfortable with websites in a language you don’t support on the hotel website, they will most probably book via a third party website. Let's step away from just looking at channel and segment mix defined by systems and instead look at the traveler profile mix through their customer journey.
