As the VP of Corporate Engineering and Security at Checkr, you will be responsible for driving the organization's critical internal and security operations as we scale. The successful candidate will directly oversee IT, Business Systems, Workplace, Business Intelligence, and Information Security. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will play an integral part in shaping our technology infrastructure, security framework, and employee experience. Why are there so many different titles in this job market?   Isn't an Architect... an Architect?   Well… yes… and no. 🙈   But, truthfully, I'm probably the worst person to ask.   Why is that?   Well, in the IT field, I've done several different roles as an Architect.   🔹 Enterprise Architect 🔹 Security Architect 🔹 Solution Architect 🔹 Business Architect 🔹 Solution Development Architect   To add insult to injury, I have a Master of Science in Architectural Studies degree. *SIGH* - Yes… in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) community.   But! While I did actually go through my Design studios and learned a ton about how to create space and build interesting, sustainable & functional buildings, I never made it my career path.   Side note: My Thesis did tie in with my Cyber Security background! "Analysis of Information Security Risks with BIM Workflow"   Confusing huh?   Maybe not so much if you think about it. Perhaps you can help me by thinking like one of these Architects.   Enterprise Architect: 🌐 ▶Focuses on the overall IT strategy of the organization ▶Ensures alignment between business and IT goals ▶Designs and maintains the IT infrastructure blueprint   Security Architect: 🛡️ ▶Specializes in protecting the organization’s data and systems ▶Designs robust security architectures to fend off cyber threats ▶Keeps up with the latest in cybersecurity trends and technologies   Business Architect: 📊 ▶Loves connecting the dots within organizations and building journeys ▶Obsessed with optimizing business processes and transformations ▶Sometimes dreams in flowcharts and business models   Solution Architect: 🖥️ ▶Lives for solving technical problems ▶Comprehends highly technical system architectures ▶Gets a thrill from creating scalable solutions   Solution Development Architect: 🤖 ▶Combines strategy and technical know-how to develop pre-sales solutions ▶Innovates and integrates new technologies and service opportunities into business models ▶Balances the business vision with technical execution   Regardless of the type of Architect role you perform, it's essential to acknowledge a consistent mindset in performing any of them. Ultimately, your job is to ensure you are providing valuable insight, feedback, leadership, and confidence to your customers; which allows them to be more successful in their business goals and objectives.   You might just need to be the best problem-solver in the room.
