It's a chance to use modern AI to solve a real-world problem. I’ve felt the pain of manually verifying businesses throughout my fintech career. At Gusto, we built an internal tool called ZenSA to make this process more efficient, but the technology wasn’t quite there to fully automate it. 2. The problem is huge and a major friction point for scaling global commerce. In just the first few months, we've partnered with several fast-growing international fintechs and fully automated their business onboarding. I'm thrilled to share that I will be joining Uber Marketplace Mobility Matching team as Machine Learning Engineer. I'm genuinely excited to join such a customer-facing high impact team. I wanted to share the summary highlight of my career transition: - Towards end of last year, I decided to voluntarily leave PayPal due to a mix of professional & personal situation. I cannot deny that I was privileged with visa situation & my partner’s financial support, so was able to fully focus on next career pursuit and spending time with my toddler. - The journey got longer than expected due to market situation, however, through uncountable recruiter calls, 18+ phone screen interviews, 5 onsite interviews and 2 close-to-offer and one final offer, I have had immense growth. - I identified my most suited role from Data Scientist vs ML scientist vs Appplied Scientist vs ML Engineer. - Through all the failed interviews which I consider as free mock interviews by top notch company employees, I had a huge boost in my technical skills & I am a lot more confident version of myself. My two cents for people who are not happy in career journey: If life permits, take a bet on yourself, It can do wonders! Who is a Software Engineer? 💻 It’s a common term we hear and see in many job titles and descriptions. 👀 But what does it really mean? Here’s my point of view: 👇 Isn't it a vague term to define one’s expertise? A Software Engineer can encompass various roles such as: - Front-End Developer - Back-End Developer - Full Stack Developer - Data Analyst - Quality Analyst - Tester - Network Engineer - App Developer - ...and more. My point is that when someone uses the title “Software Engineer,” it should be clear what their specific expertise is. When a job post is for a “Senior Software Engineer” or “Associate Software Engineer,” it often implies that the company expects the candidate to handle multiple roles and contribute across various domains. Don’t you think this is too much? There should be specific job posts for each role to ensure clarity and focus. In core roles in tech companies, you need problem-solvers who will get things done no matter what. I think that's a combination of IQ, Conscientiousness, and Openness to new ideas and change. You can test for these attributes directly (cognitive ability, psychometrics) - or, you can do so indirectly with the right case study. For example, we helped Revolut hire 2 dozen leaders and board members post their Series C. During that hiring push, the team at Revolut would ask us to send out tasks to even non-technical leaders that required SQL data analysis. Needless to say, it made the task of hiring really hard. And it was frustrating. Very few people even bothered to sit down and attempt the task. Some got offended we even suggested it. "Do you know who I am?!" But in retrospect, this was a good filter. The people who attempted it showed they were willing to learn a new skill (or refresh old knowledge) and figure out a new problem quickly, even if they had no prior knowledge of SQL. And they didn’t back down until they had solved it. You can argue it’s useless to test for this because non-technical leaders don’t need to know SQL in their day-to-day work. Or you can argue that in today’s world, you’ll never know what is required of you on the job, even when you’re an experienced executive. The world moves too fast. Staying nimble and open to learning new things ensures you don’t get stuck in a rut - and also keeps a check on your ego :)

What is the easiest way to break into tech? Find a job at a non-tech company. Here is why: 1️⃣ Broader opportunities Non-tech companies(retail, manufacturing, insurance, banking etc) across various sectors are undergoing digital transformations. They have fewer hiring barriers and high demand for tech skills. 2️⃣ Diverse tech roles Entry level roles like IT support, data analyst, QA tester, web developer, and project manager open the door to a real career in tech. 3️⃣ Less competition Unlike the tech giants, non-tech companies typically have smaller candidate pools for tech roles. This increases your chances of not just landing a job but potentially securing a position with more responsibility. 4️⃣ Transferable skills The skills and experiences you gain in these roles are highly transferable and valued across the tech industry. Whether you decide to transition to a tech-centric company later on or climb the ladder within a non-tech environment, your skill set will serve as a strong foundation. How to start?
