The African Center for Peace and Justice Studies (ACJPS) in collaboration with the Sudanese Music Research Center carried out research about the human rights violations committed against artists during the current armed conflict. The report focuses on the period between 15 April 2023, and September 2024, highlighting the plight of artists, musicians, and dramatists, some of whom have supported the warring parties establishing a global precedent. However, musicians and singers who are part of the Musical Corps are excluded from this report, as they are military personnel and are involved in the violations against the population.

100 Seats for Misfits: Do you have your ticket?
I loved how Myah described her Company: 'It's a training ground for the misfit.' A misfit is someone who does not fit easily within a particular group or environment—I’ve been a misfit all my life. What about you? A misfit is someone whose behavior or attitudes differ from the norms of the group they are in, making them stand out or sometimes feel out of place. I bet you have felt out of place at one point or another too. I don’t call myself the 'accidental banker' because I fit perfectly in this world—I am a misfit.
Isn’t it great when you find a group, an organization, or a friend where being yourself is celebrated? That’s exactly what they are doing with this program. I call this kind of program a training ground for the underdog. I refer to this type of effort as 'the but for.' But for an initiative like this, people who are looking to find their way wouldn’t get the exposure that could be the tipping point directing them toward their purpose!
I, for one, am all for giving people platforms and positioning them to reach the next level. I want to celebrate these ‘misfits’—will you join me? The auditorium holds 100 people—let’s pack it! The arts are crucial for sparking creativity and passion, and I hope to see you there. Let me know if you will join me—I will be attending. Myah, thank you for your leadership. Landmarks Illinois recently awarded Gibson City Restoration Association in Gibson City $4,000 through Landmarks Illinois’ Preservation Heritage Fund for masonry repairs to the historic Burwell Building, built in 1883 as an opera hall and is now being restored to spark economic development in the city’s commercial corridor.
The building was named for Gibson City’s first banker, MT Burwell, and has had many uses over its history. The Loy Dime Store once called this downtown building home as did the local Opera House. GRCA will use its grant funds to help repoint the brick exterior of the Burwell Building.

... and another story about the healing power of music... These drum beats are keeping my attention focused, which for those who know me, is not a core competency. In all areas of our lives, music can help bring teams, organizations, countries, and tribes together - IF we are willing to try it. We are ready when you are.

Founder & Artistic Director at The Jerusalem Youth Chorus | TED Speaker | Forbes 30 Under 30 for Music | Musical Changemaker
This in-depth, 10-minute story from PBS NewsHour about the Jerusalem Youth Chorus really captures both the nuance and power of our work, as we bring Palestinian and Israeli youth together through song and dialogue and show the world that a different way is not only possible, but necessary.
Excited that the clip features our time together with the Rumi Forum and ADAMS BEAT, the only masjid youth chorus in the US. Indebted to my dear friends and partners Ibrahim A. Anli and Hurunnessa Fariad for their bravery and leadership in these polarizing times. And of course Adas Israel Congregation for hosting nearly 1,0000 people at our unforgettable concert in Washington.
Thank you to the One America Movement for their support of our tour and to Anne Davenport and Jeffrey Brown at NewsHour for lifting up our singers' voices so beautifully in this time where only those who shout seem to be getting the mic.
We're changing that.

“What legacy do you want to leave?”
This is one of the above the line questions that are so much more important to determine before the below the line technical strategies and solutions get discussed. Legacy planning will replace the term “estate planning” because it starts with the passing of family values, aspirations, dreams of how to make a high impact difference in your community and world, etc. more so than leading with taxes , trusts, titling, and all things technical. The great work of the Comnunity Foundation is that it brilliantly does both… but starts with the heart.
What legacy do you want to leave? Genevieve Falk had a love for and commitment to the arts in Jackson. She left a bequest to CFM to benefit five arts organizations—Ballet Mississippi, Mississippi Museum of Art, Mississippi Opera Association, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and New Stage Theatre. All organizations she supported during her lifetime.
Hear from Ballet Mississippi's David Keary about how the Meyer and Genevieve Falk Endowment Fund for Culture and Arts continues to tell their story each year, using the arts community to bring people together.

With libraries closing and a sharp decline in the uptake of performing arts at GCSE, A-Level, and degree levels, the future of arts education looks uncertain. Will the new government learn from past mistakes and continue to invest in the arts, or will we continue to see cuts upon cuts? It’s time to prioritise creativity and education, not diminish them.
Over 13,000 people are calling on the Scottish Government to deliver on their arts funding pledges.
Without action, cultural catastrophe in Scotland is imminent, with over 45 museums and galleries at risk of closure.
