As a parent, there are moments that fill your heart with pride and a touch of nostalgia. Today, I experienced one of those moments when I saw my son Jake Childers pop up on my LinkedIn feed, celebrating their internship Blue Trust. Watching them grow, learn, and now step into the professional world is incredibly rewarding. It feels like just yesterday they were taking their first steps, and now they’re making strides in their career. This journey has been filled with countless lessons, both for them and for me. Here are a few reflections: 1. Embrace Change: Seeing your child transition from the classroom to the workplace is a reminder that change is constant and growth is inevitable. Embrace it with open arms. 2. Celebrate Small Wins: Every accomplishment, no matter how small, is a step forward. Celebrate these moments to build confidence and momentum. 3. Mentorship Matters: Encourage them to seek mentors and also be one yourself. Sharing experiences and insights can make a significant difference in their journey. 4. Stay Curious: The world is evolving rapidly. Encourage them to stay curious and keep learning, adapting to new challenges and opportunities. 5. Support and Trust: As they embark on their career path, your support and trust in their abilities mean the world to them. Be their biggest cheerleader. To all the parents out there witnessing similar milestones, let’s cherish these moments and continue to guide our children as they make their mark in the world. And to Jake Childers, I couldn’t be prouder of you. Here’s to many more achievements and learning experiences ahead! 🌟 #ProudParent #NextGeneration #InternshipJourney #ProfessionalGrowth #Milestones

I'm happy to announce I have completed my work as a Political Policy Intern at Baker Avenue Wealth Management. I had a great experience working closely to analyze politically focused market research material and summarize reports to be used by employees in furthering knowledge regarding how political decisions and ongoings effect the market and the nation as a whole. About BakerAvenue: BakerAvenue provides comprehensive wealth management and investment expertise for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, foundations and endowments. BakerAvenue is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, San Diego, Sun Valley and Naples. About the Policy Research Internship: BakerAvenue manages client assets internally with a focus on fundamental, technical, and macro inputs. Reviewing the political backdrop, and its potential impact on the markets, is a key part of the firm’s macro analysis. The importance of policy research was magnified in the Summer of 2024 because of the upcoming elections. This internship involved reviewing various politically focused market research material (e.g., research reports from brokerage firms, press articles, statements from the candidates, etc.) and providing summarized viewpoints to BakerAvenue’s investment team. Deliverables: Summarize approximately twenty separate politically focused market research reports for BakerAvenue’s Investment Team Familiarize yourself with key policy-related terms and/or phrases and attempt to assess materiality Summarize sector and/or industry specific policy-related takeaways for BakerAvenue’s Investment Team Prepare a firmwide presentation highlighting what I have learned, including, my opinion on potential outcomes this election cycle

Although my internship wrapped up last month, the Economic Development Division for the Town of Vienna has recently published the Biannual Economic Indicators report that I coauthored. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Natalie Guilmeus (Monkou) and Ashley Curtis for their guidance, mentorship, and for making this summer such a great experience. The report analyzed key economic trends in the town, including commercial real estate performance, business growth, and tax revenues. Some highlights of the report include: 1) A 14.9% growth in sales tax revenue compared to the previous year. 2) A decline in retail vacancy rates by 2.4%, contributing to higher gross rents. 3) An overview of the 31 new business licenses in the past 6 months, including the growth of home-based businesses. 4) A remarkable 4.54% average median household income increase over the past decade, currently sitting upwards of $215,000. All of these indicators highlight Vienna’s strong economy and thriving business environment. With its bustling streets, vibrant local shops, rising property values, and impressive household income growth, the Town of Vienna remains an outstanding location for both businesses and residents. So, all of this is simply to say that the Town of Vienna offers an exceptional quality of life and continues to be a community where economic prosperity and small-town charm coexist. I’m truly grateful to have spent my summer here.

Last week, I successfully completed my summer internship at JLL research division. Over the past few years, China's real estate sector has faced intense scrutiny, from the country's declining housing market to discussions about implementing council taxes. I am grateful for the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the Chinese commercial real estate market. I learned a great deal about the importance of field research, model development, city-level analysis, and the application of satellite imagery and geographic information systems. #realestate #cre #chinaeconomics #jll

They grow fast...
A couple weeks ago, I wrapped my internship at the U.S. Department of Commerce in the office of Secretary Gina Raimondo. I had the opportunity to attend and help out with events like a U.S.-Ukraine Partnership Forum, the SCSP AI Expo for National Competitiveness, Secretary Raimondo's policy address on the CHIPS Act, and more, while learning about the Commerce Department's priorities all semester long. It was an honor to be there. I want to thank my supervisor Caroline Ward and everyone in my office for the experience, as well as Jocelyn Frelier, PhD and the Brown in Washington program for the opportunity to spend a semester in Washington, D.C.

New York Times: A reader asked: "I manage the summer-intern program for my team at a major global financial institution. Together with two other colleagues, I decide to whom we wish to offer full-time positions at the end of the term. Our interns come from an array of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds and perform their duties with varying degrees of skill. Those coming from more well-to-do backgrounds appear to be performing better than those who come from less privileged backgrounds. When providing our final evaluations and ranking these interns, should we take their personal life circumstances into consideration? Or must we evaluate interns solely on job performance? We have been given no guidance on this from our program management." Are the findings on performance—background the same here, locally? https://lnkd.in/drfUnUBT
