Heat pumps are revolutionizing how we heat and cool our homes and businesses by slashing energy consumption and cutting emissions. Karen Meyers, Vice President of Government Affairs, addresses decarbonization’s influence in the July issue of PHCPPros. https://lnkd.in/gspRpGbi
Replaced all my heat pumps to 20 seer units. Less that 3 years old and this is how I’m running my unit. Parts unavailable and unknown when they will have the parts to fix the unit.
This is well worth the read and perfect timing as we are gearing up to demistify a lot about heat pumps for pools and spas this month.
First things first - heat pumps are not just for heating your pool as some models, like the Raypak Crosswind V Deluxe series, can also cool your water.
This especially appropriate as we are getting into the height of summer in the Southeast where high temps can reach well over 100 degree Fahrenheit which can mean bath-like water temps for many pools. Can you imagine having a pool to enjoy on those hot days only to dive in to warm water? We can’t either.
And many people who already have traditional heaters might not think investing in a heat pump is worth it, but having a heat pump can both extend your summer season by cooling, but also efficiently extend your pool season by heating your pool when it may not be as cost friendly to use your gas heater. You could make up for your initial investment pretty quickly while also extending your pool season.
So maybe you’re in a state like Texas, Louisiana, or Tennessee - and think a heat pump isn’t appropriate for your needs, but if you understand what they can do to extend your pool season and maximize usage throughout most of the year - you may reconsider.
And if you’re in Texas - watch out here as we are running Heat Pump trainings later this month in Houston, Austin, and DFW. We’re on a mission to help our customers understand and explain the full benefits of having a heat pump as part of your pool setup.

The EPA has released new regulations that will close always-available power sources and make it harder to build new ones.
🚨 We need you to speak out and tell Congress to stop these new regulations and support energy policy that keeps the lights on: https://bit.ly/3QMvCcH
Electric co-ops pride themselves on providing reliable, affordable energy no matter the conditions. However, policymakers in Washington are making decisions that threaten our energy supply and increase the risk of dangerous rolling blackouts.

The election of a new government feels like an apt time to share a new paper, written with Michael Taylor, PhD, Taru Silvonen and Jan Rosenow on UK policy and governance for net zero. The paper asks what policy is required to accelerate the diffusion of heat pumps in the UK? It concludes with five priority areas for action, starting with developing a clear societal narrative around the need for the decarbonisation of domestic heat. Could this be an easy quick win for Keir Starmer's government?

According to our new survey on Clean Heat Readiness (with Trinomics), we see that:
🟢 5 of 12 🇪🇺 MSs have already phased out public subsidies for fossil fuel heating
🟡 3 have partially
🔴 4 still support fossil fuels
The EU needs to agree on a strict definition of fossil fuel boilers (within the framework of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) to support a swift decarbonisation of EU building stock! #HeatRight

It's shocking to see The Wall Street Journal publish such a poorly argued pro-#fossilfuel attack on a federal electricity policy that benefits everyone.
Contrary to the WSJ's (weak) primary argument, neither #electricity nor #renewableenergy are political irl: they are critical, life-sustaining resources, like food, water and shelter.
No one who is familiar with US electricity policy over the last 20 years should be surprised by FERC's solution to ensuring Americans have access to affordable, reliable electricity. This policy has been years in the making and is critical to modernizing US energy infrastructure.

Having watched the first two political debates of the election I was obviously ‘tuning into’ the discussions around energy policy. One thing that struck me was the negative comments from the Conservatives regarding heat pumps and their deployment - comments made by both the Prime Minister and Penny Mordaunt. To raise this once might be brushed aside as incidental but to raise it in both debates seems to indicate its use as a clear attack line. Tonight Penny Mordaunt said “Vote Labour and you won’t be allowed to replace your boiler - you’ll have to buy a heat pump”.
FWIW I really don’t think that’s quite the case and Labour will probably take a more balanced and nuanced approach to heat decarbonisation.
However, what really struck me is how such negative rhetoric stacks up against the often unbridled enthusiasm for heat pumps shown by certain HMG Ministers. Were they out on a limb in their beliefs? Were they perhaps acting beyond their brief? Or were they simply expressing ‘personal views’ - yet ones that are clearly out of step with party thinking? How on earth can one make head or tail of Government policy when such discord exists?

The EPA’s power plant rule jeopardizes the ability of rural electric cooperatives to keep the lights on at a cost consumers can afford. Because cooperatives must make business decisions now to comply with the rule, it will have immediate and irreparable consequences.
