Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, with its branch here in Ocala, works tirelessly to fight hunger and ensure everyone has access to nutritious food. Here are ways you can contribute: ✅ Donate non-perishable food items: Canned goods, pasta, rice, and protein sources are always in high demand. ✅ Organize a small food drive: Gather donations from your family, friends, or colleagues. Check with Second Harvest for drop-off locations or potential donation drives happening near you. ✅ Make a financial contribution: Even a small donation can have a significant impact in providing meals to families in need. One of the most common concerns we hear from potential food donors is the fear of liability—many worry about being sued if donated food unintentionally causes harm. Some even mistakenly think donating surplus food is illegal. Good news 📣 ✨️ The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act protects individuals, businesses, and nonprofits that donate food in good faith. Dispelling this myth encourages more food donations and less waste. In the U.S., 13 million children live in food-insecure homes. For many of these kids, school lunch is their only meal of the day, yet the current funding of $4.43 per meal is simply not enough to provide the nutritious food they need to thrive. That’s why I’m participating in the $5 Boost Campaign—a mission to raise funds for HydroTowers and Independence Gardens' cooking program, Come and EAT IT. These initiatives bring fresh, healthy food directly into schools, empowering students to learn and grow. 💡 Here’s How You Can Help: - Donate just $5 to make a difference in a child’s life. Your contribution will help us reach our goal and ensure that kids have access to the healthy meals they deserve. 📅 If you’re in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, join us on September 14th for our Food Fight event—a chef competition focused on transforming school lunch. Can’t make it in person? No problem! Your $5 donation also gives you access to the virtual event, so you can watch the action live. Let’s come together to fight for a future where no child has to worry about their next meal. Make a difference this Hunger Action Month by donating shelf-stable foods to your local food bank! While food banks need all types of food, shelf-stable ingredients are helpful because they don't expire as quickly as fresh ingredients. In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need. Learn more about our work and recent trends at bit.ly/FISH23Report. #FoodBank #FamilyResourceCenter #Trends #AnnualReport
