Nearly twenty years after his father returned to Myanmar from Malaysia, Waira Min Kyaw embarked on the same journey in search of better opportunities. Waira, known to friends as William, never dreamed of going abroad unless it was to further his studies, but with the escalating political situation in his home country, it was time to make a choice. “When you migrate without the right information, you can find yourself in many vulnerable situations. This happens a lot to Burmese people because quality education isn’t easily available for everyone. If migrants had vocational skills, they could get better positions with better pay to support their families,” shares William. One of the things we do at EWSI is comparative analyses between member states on how issues related to migration are approached. The latest one is about assessing and building on qualifications that people from third countries carry with them. Results are quite depressing – we tend to disregard many educations and experiences, so that ressources are lost when skilled migrants end up working in unskilled jobs. But we have also found good practices for inspiration – from Denmark, the IGU course and free language training for all are positive examples. Read the full analysis here: https://lnkd.in/eZhfaFpS.

“Up until the very recently, we were the number one employer of expatriate staff in the world; far ahead of second place.” So we heard from a representative of the company recently. But the question is, which company? Let us give you some further clues… The number of expat staff has been so huge (10,000+) that they have built schools to accommodate the families in: - Nigeria - Oman - Brunei Some of them, such as the one pictured below, Panaga School in Brunei, were founded as long ago as 1948, when they were almost wholly filled with Dutch and British children. We’re sure you’ve got it by now Yes, the answer is Shell. And they used to have schools in Malaysia, Russia, Syria and Gabon too. If you want to learn more, this article is a bit dated but it’s also really really interesting (page 26; “Caring for families means creating schools”): https://lnkd.in/eiAydg-z Panaga School: https://lnkd.in/edjShsPD #expatriates #internationalschools

Anyone working in Foreign Affairs Department can see this discuss with Minister and HoD.
I wish I can be given the opportunity to work with PNG Embassy in Indonesia to roll out educational programs and create pathways for Papua New Guinean students. I am not sure if PNG Embassy in Indonesia has education attache position available. If not, the Foreign Affairs Department really need to create a position for education attache. We have huge opportunities out there for Papua New Guineans. We need the right person to occupy the post to create pathways not just there for holiday.

I went to the Indonesian Embassy today. Ooh, I remember my country Indonesia for a little while. I hope it will be better in the near future in terms of economic, political, law, social justice, education system, etc. I miss living in Indonesia, tanah airku, tumpah darahku. Therefore, Indonesia's government now has two Presidents. We should realize what’s happening, what’s going on in this country, and what’s wrong with it. Then we can fix it for a better life and better future. In my opinion, this country is big, a super big land with a big population inside, and so the solution is we should THINK BIG also. The first work is, that the government should remove all the bad things into good things, for example, corruption and bureaucracy. However regarding power or duty we should think small. By dividing power/authority it would be easier to accomplish it. We can work on those, InshaAllah. For example, promoting the tourist sector, building up the trust of the institutions & provincial government. Also, the importance of division of duty in the province & city so the authority is spread out, it is not only in one place, but certainly it is controlled by the central capital. Extend the education system such as updating the facilities and providing internet access in all corners of Indonesia. Moreover, we need to think, act, contribute anything and everything even small things that we can do as a citizen of this country. In fact, Indonesia is a developing country in Southeast Asia. Back then, we were a big country that had a big dream and was appreciated and respected by surrounding countries also in the WORLD. Even though it’s not a developed country yet , at least please don’t be an underdeveloped country. We have so many resources (human & natural), land, maritime, agriculture, and people with skills and knowledge. Remember, we have respectful scholars, and for this, please give them an opportunity give place for them to teach, to live in, develop, and grow because they also have a good & important role in this country. And you know this country, Indonesia even started with scholars first. If you don't know about this, you have to read and learn again from the history. Today, so many things have changed in Indonesia. There are many good things. I admit it, including building development and transportation, that some cities are more modern than ever before, especially in the capital city, but we should realize that we are FAR AWAY from the ideal as a country. We should remembering and remeniscing how this country was united and sovereign in the past with all the sacrifices, under the Almighty God. Bhinneka, Pancasila and Constitution are should be the top of priorities for our country, Indonesia. -Jayalah Indonesiaku, kunantikan Kemakmuranmu.- FYI: As an Indonesian, you can leave your thoughts. Thank you!
