The Virginia General Assembly Building is a beautiful restoration project on which we had the privilege of working and collaborating. Needing to be complementary to the original 1912 structure’s façade, a seamless match of color, finish, and profile alignment was required and critical to the project's success. Our architectural precast was designed to incorporate a large stonework pattern and was jointed to disguise joints and avoid disruptions in the pattern. Reminiscent of the Doric order of Greek architecture, some of the precast panels have architectural features like the guttae that can be found along the edge of various panels. The restoration of this historic piece of governmental architecture demonstrates how architectural precast can be used for new building façades in historic contexts.   Architects: RAMSA | Robert A.M. Our Principal Lesley Aron Schmerzler AIA at the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2024 Tennessee Conference! The theme of this year’s conference was “Grounding.” Through this motif, the event aimed to explore both architecture’s physical relationship to material flows and resources within ecological systems, as well as architecture’s intangible relationship to history, memory, and lesser-acknowledged cultural contexts.
