CNC operators should be familiar with setting up a work coordinate system (G54)! Did you ever try to do this on a large format 3D printed part? We have been working on improving efficiency in milling and especialy reducing operator errors. This is the reason we developed our in-house 3D scanning solution! If you ever tried to align a 3D printed part with a cnc machine, you will be familiair with the difficulties. This new tool and automated workflow is designed for automated aligning large-format 3D-printed parts for CNC milling. Usually, your material blank has straight edges, allowing you to use an edge finder to align the work coordinate system with your material. However, large-format 3D-printed parts are often curved and frequently utilize freeform shapes, making it difficult and time-consuming to find the correct work coordinates. This is critical, as an incorrect setup could result in a scrapped part, wasting both the material and the time invested in printing. Can I do ArcDED/WAAM with a cobot? Of course! I'm not very good at it yet but was thrilled to be able to "print" my first simple structures. 😀 😀 😀 Arc Directed Energy Deposition (ArcDED), also known as Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is a process where you 3D print parts using a robot and welder. In this case I used a Universal Robots UR20 and a basic manual weld torch attached to the arm. These first results weren't great, but weren't horrible either as you'll see at the end of the video. The cool thing is that it's not that hard to do. Most ArcDED development is focused on large organizations, but I could see small and medium manufacturers implementing it with their existing equipment to quickly print near-net-shape parts. Our lights out Adaptive machining process using our fully automated Fanuc robots and rail system. This automated process helps to eliminate our scrap rate to less than 1%, less labor rates, and higher capacity. This shows mostly the entire process that includes: 1.  The process starts out with track robot picking up castings out of automated holding drawer, scans the serial number. 2.  Then puts the casting into the ATOS scan box for initial best fit and automation process. 3.  After going through the blue light scanner, the part is picked up and brought to 3D printed loading tray for 5-axis robot to put into custom hydraulic fixture to allow CNC to adaptively cut casting to correct shape. 4.  When the part is done in the CNC machine the 5-axis tending robot will wash and sand blast part then load into outgoing pickup tray for track robot to deliver casting to ATOS scan box for final inspection. 5.  Lastly the parts will be visually inspected. #Fanuc #Automation #cnc

The hybrid CNC machine tool is an idea that continues to advance. As a working concept, the idea is a decade old. And while applications are not so widespread that hybrid machines are found in typical machining job shops, applications are numerous enough to offer an expanding market that continues to be served. The hybrid machine tool is, in one sense, a niche technology. In another sense, it is something more, because there is a diversity of niches in which the technology offers promise.
