Our county administers the exam that covers the town & village police departments as well as the sheriffs office. In years past there were 4-5 thousand people taking the exam and one would have to score 90-100% to get hired (you were lucky to get hired with a 90). The last test they gave there was somewhere around 750 people who took it! Some municipalities had zero people on their respective hiring list and others have exhausted theirs with just one round of hiring. Lowering standards is just going to give a department a substandard cop who will most likely cost them tens of thousands of dollars in lawsuits. Recruiting the right people is the answer.
I appreciate the effort by the DOJ but we need to be very careful if we are going to suggest the lowering of standards...even if the name was changed to the "modernization of eligibility" -https://lnkd.in/gDPkYxXK
