AQSASA (AEROSPACE QUALITY AND SAFETY ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA) EST: 2024 AQSASA is the leading aerospace professional quality and safety association committed to quality and safety objectives within the aerospace environment, including aircraft, airports, operations, maintenance and training. The purpose of AQSASA is to set and maintain an acceptable quality and safety standard for the aerospace industry, represent the members regarding legislative matters, create a network of aerospace industry professionals, share knowledge and expertise to benefit the aviation industry as a whole and foster common values and collaboration among the members. AQSASA's main objectives are to promote high levels of quality and safety in the aerospace sphere and to support growth in the aviation industry. Formed in 2024, AQSASA is involved in various negotiations with the National Aviation Authorities of Southern Africa and other aviation stakeholders to resolve issues pertaining to its sphere of influence. AQSASA exists as a regional representative body for aerospace Quality and Safety professionals who provide services to the aviation industry's operational, maintenance, training, and infrastructure sectors. The Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) has released the RFT for their anticipated Strategic Support Contract (SSC). DASA intends to subsume the many short term contracts into a single, long term arrangement providing greater efficiencies, certainty and enhanced relationship with industry. The Initial Contract Term will be 5 years with 5 performance based extension options up to a total of 10 years. DASA will be holding an industry briefing at 1pm on Friday, 9th August. Details on how to register for the industry briefing are available in the Conditions of Tender and require a Deed of Confidentiality and Fidelity to be signed by 1pm, Wednesday 7th August. DASA is seeking a single legal entity to provide, or manage the provision of, the full scope of services, including where appropriate, subcontractors. The High-Level scope is categorised to these areas: • Strategic Relationship, • Contract Management, • Recurring tasking, • Ad-hoc tasking, • Embedded Specialist Staff, and • Transition. The RFT has been prepared using the ASDEFCON (Complex Services) template with material amendments. AFRAA is among other African aviation stakeholders attending the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meetings, taking place from 11-13 December 2024 at EASA’s Headquarters in Cologne, Germany. The meetings are co-chaired by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Commission (EC) and organised in partnership with the African Civil Aviation Commission AFCAC on the subjects: ➡️ EU-Africa Safety in Aviation ➡️ Operationalization of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) ➡️ The Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) ➡️ Competition – Taxes and Charges The Steering Committee meetings are an opportunity to review updates on the progress and stream of activities developed under the above-mentioned Projects and solicit valuable input from stakeholders for the 2025 Action Plan. This will ensure better coordination of ongoing and future EASA-managed projects.
