In a search of the available literature the authors identified 37 patients with PJIs receiving adjunctive Phage Therapy. A random-effects proportional meta-analysis suggested infection remission in 78% of patients (95% CI: 39%, 95%) (I2 = 55%, p = 0.08) and 83% with a minimum 12-month follow-up (95% CI: 53%, 95%) (I2 = 26%, p = 0.26). Conclusions: Our study provides a preliminary estimate of PT’s efficacy in PJIs and informs future comparative studies. Stephanie Lesage https://lnkd.in/eMDRwHZP

Here we go, we’re back with new FAQs, this week's on #suspectedsepsis in patients 🌟 ❔ Question: Can MeMed BV® be used to diagnose sepsis? ✔ Answer: Although MeMed BV is not indicated for the diagnosis of Sepsis, current guidelines emphasize the importance of promptly assessing the likelihood and cause of infection in suspected sepsis patients. MeMed BV demonstrates high accuracy in distinguishing between bacterial and viral infections in this specific patient population and may help in rapid assessment of infection etiology with a result within 15 minutes of blood draw. 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘃 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗿𝗶 — '𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲: 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆' Pranav Johri is the Founder at Vitalis Phage Therapy based in India. His story starts when he had been diagnosed with an antibiotic-resistant prostatitis infection. Pranav and his wife Apurva struggled with his deteriorating health and a medical system that gives up on patients whose infections don’t respond to antibiotics. Their search for an alternative treatment led them to phage therapy, a century old science that was forgotten by the world and is now being rediscovered in response to the rapidly spreading pandemic of antibiotic-resistant superbugs. Pranav was able to successfully overcome his antibiotic-resistant infection with phage therapy at Eliava Phage Therapy Center at Tblisi, Georgia. Together with her wife Apurva, they established Vitalis Phage Therapy with the mission of creating awareness of and enabling access to phage therapy. Five years later, they have enabled over 200 patients to access phage therapy, and now in collaboration with medical institutions we hope to create access to phage therapy for every patient suffering from a chronic, recurrent or antibiotic-resistant infection. Don't miss this opportunity to gain insights and expertise from a phage therapy patients. 📅 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞: September 27th, 2024 🕛 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM (EAT) 📍 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦: LinkedIn Live 🔗 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐰: https://shorturl.at/eb8Np #AntimicrobialResistance #PhageTherapy #PanelDiscussion #AntibioticResistance #PhageResearch #OneHealth

""The evidence supports the use of cranberry juice for the prevention of UTIs. While increased liquids benefit the rate of UTIs and reduce antibiotic use, and cranberry compounds benefit symptoms of infection, the combination of these, in cranberry juice, provides clear and significant clinical outcomes for the reduction in UTIs and antibiotic use and should be considered for the management of UTIs," the authors wrote." #medicine #health

In pediatric hemato-oncologic patients, pulmonary fungal infections (i.e. Candida, Aspergillus, Mucor) are life-threatening and require early diagnosis alongside appropriate management. This Educational Review highlights common chest CT imaging findings, helping to differentiate these infections and guide treatment in immunosuppressed children. Understanding Appendicitis and Related Conditions Acute Appendicitis Acute appendicitis is a sudden inflammation of the appendix, a small, finger-shaped pouch connected to the colon. It often presents with: - Pain starting around the navel, then moving to the lower right abdomen. - Nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. - Fever and tenderness in the affected area. Gangrenous Appendicitis If untreated, acute appendicitis may progress to gangrenous appendicitis, where the appendix tissue dies due to reduced blood supply. This is a severe form that can lead to rupture and life-threatening complications. Appendicolith An appendicolith is a calcified deposit found in the appendix. It can block the appendix's opening, leading to inflammation or infection, and is often seen in imaging studies of appendicitis patients. Perforated Appendix with Abscess A perforated appendix occurs when the inflamed appendix bursts, spreading infection into the abdominal cavity. The body may try to contain the infection by forming an abscess, a pocket of pus, around the appendix. Importance of Early Diagnosis Early medical attention can prevent complications like gangrene, perforation, or abscess formation. Surgical removal (appendectomy) is the standard treatment, often combined with antibiotics. #Appendicitis #MedicalAwareness #Healthcare #EmergencyCare #Appendicolith #GangrenousAppendicitis #PerforatedAppendixGangrenous #AppendicitisAwareness, #SurgicalEducationHealthEducation
