Vote NOW for the UK’s Best Food Hall! Food halls are an increasingly important part of the street food revolution. They give traders a new income stream, and they make SO much sense for the public. Why would you commit to a night out at a restaurant, with a narrow-focus menu, when you and your friends can eat your way round a host of unique and independent street food traders in the one location? Food halls are like food courts of old, but without the Burger King. Or the vinyl tabletops. Good food halls are bold, well-dressed, and indicative of the new confidence in British food. Some of them (we can talk about which ones....) are filled with the new food heroes that work the street – the sort of trader that competes in the British Street Food Awards. Some of them, however, are filled with brands that have been dreamt up in board meetings to LOOK that way. But who does it best? After calling for nominations on Facebook, instagram and Twitter, we'll list the three most popular and put them to a public vote. At the grand finals of the 2024 British Street Food Awards final (Hackney Bridge on September 13-15) where the very best traders in Britain will be cooking their hearts out to win the British title AND a place in the grand finale of the 2024 European Street Food Awards in Germany – we’ll announce our winners. So please let us know? In the comments below - and on instagram? #foodhall #streetfood

Craving some Chick-fil-A? It will cost you 21% more than it did two years ago, according to new figures. The national chicken restaurant first raised its prices by 15% in 2022, and then in January 2023, the chain's menu-wide prices at more than 3,000 locations increased another 6% as minimum-wage increases and other economic factors came into play, reported Newsweek, citing figures from the food business blog Food Truck Empire. Eye-catching article here from the BBC. Kudos to the Chartered Trading Standards Institute for putting all the figures together – I absolutely love these kinds of story, where hard data is used to better inform us about our day-to-day lives in an engaging and accessible way. It’s great journalism, and great comms from CTSI. There is a reason the data teams are thriving at news organisations – people like reading this stuff. However – and this is where I put my LinkedIn Lunatic hat on – Britain has a serious problem with pouring pints. And it’s not what the CTSI thinks. “CTSI researchers measured the sample beers based on a pint being completely liquid” – this is criminal. A pilsner should have at least an inch of head. More for a Hefeweizen. British beer drinkers are shooting themselves in the foot here – a greater volume of liquid doesn’t make a better beer. Foam draws out carbonation, adds flavour, and enriches the experience. I am happy for anyone to screenshot this and post it to a forum mocking beer weirdos, by the way. This is all going to sound like a very long-winded ad, but it’s great to see breweries like DONZOKO BREWING COMPANY LTD actively push for a revival of foamy beers, which have a long heritage, especially in the north of England. When I met its founder Reece Hugill studying in Munich, he at least had the advantage of being able to justify attending the city’s endless Lederhosen-clad beer festivals as a form of reconnaissance for his commercial endeavours. So despite what the CTSI tells you – embrace the foam on your pint. Literally. Duty changes are shaking up beer and cider, leading to a stream of lower-abv innovation. But are shoppers being short-changed? For The Grocer, I've taken a deep dive into how the new booze duty system is shaping the beer and cider category, incentivising producers and shifting consumption habits among shoppers. How are producers reacting to the changes? Who's reformulating and who isn't? Are duty savings being passed on to shoppers in the form of lower prices, or are brewers simply swallowing the savings to offset higher costs? Find out in our 2024 Beer & Cider category report.

Feedback on our refreshed brand and portfolio has been fantastic across the board but our small team LIVES for reviews like this one... "I was in dire need of a good beer. I was sick and tired of the same old rubbish on today's shelves at the local super marche. You know the ones that claim to be unique but are sold in the millions. Anyhow I stumbled upon this brewery with someone leaving a bottle at a Welsh caravan park that I visited. I thought I had won the lottery until I tasted it. Then I knew I had won the lottery. The great tasting beer lottery. If you don't try this brewery's beer your missing out on a small fortune. So good was the beer I ordered 48 bottles on the new fan dangled inter web thingy. It's the only time the things proved it's weight in gold to be honest. Quick delivery value for money and the beer was immaculately flavoured. If carlsberg did beer like this it would make carlsberg actually worth drinking instead of using it for cleaning the drains. Unfortunately I moved to England more than half my life ago. This beer helped me to rediscover my taffness. It filled me with joy and the sort of warmth that you never get when in the valleys and rarely get in the UK. I heard rumours that this beer was filtered through Pablo Escobar socks hence the fluffy feeling you get upon experiencing it and how addictive it becomes as no other beer satisfies afterwards. Anyhow enough from me. In a nutshell You will not be disappointed with the taste, quality or rappidness ness of delivery. This company might be small but it certainly knows how to take care of its customers and fans. Enjoy your beer? Enjoy Tomos Watkin. There's not a bad choice amongst any of them when it comes to flavour. Don't bother choosing which brew and don't bother choosing anything other than this small company. Thank you people who work at this company from the shop floor to the top of the food chain, you must surely be a great team. Will be ordering again as they never seem to last long in my house. Perhaps a bigger bulk buy or quarterly order is required 🤔" - Colin M. 🍻Iechyd da! #TomosWatkin #GreatAlesofWales #WelshBeer #Cwrw #DrinksIndustry

Restaurant-standard street food at high volumes with short queue times is the foundation on which we've built our business. Bridging the gap between the small-scale gourmet street foodie and the volume-focused show trader. Here's an insight into how we maintain this standard whilst choosing which brands to take to high-capacity shows where queue times are at risk.

Can we talk about the public health disaster that is this video? ‘Controlling the marketing of alcohol’ and the reduction of ‘alcohol availability and accessibility’ are effective, well-documented, evidence-informed policies to reduce alcohol-related harm! The alcohol industry has a long history, worldwide, of influencing policymaking and policymakers toward their gains, at the expense of public health! Many countries are improving their policies on alcohol marketing, alcohol accessibility, and the conflict of interest with the alcohol industry. Where is Ontario headed?
