Thanks for sharing. Of course there are many warnings about the consequences of transitioning to forms of generation that doesn’t exist yet and the capacity shortages in both future generation & transmission. And that is just the start. There needs to be a national discussion about the transition. #nationalinfrastructurebank

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission moves forward on long-term electric grid planning with historic transmission rule FERC’s action marks the first time in more than a decade the agency has addressed regional transmission policy, and the first time the Commission has ever squarely addressed the need for long-term transmission planning. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently issued a final rule that aims to ensure that the U.S. electric transmission grid can meet the nation’s ever-growing demand for reliable electricity. The new rule new outlines how to plan and pay for facilities that different regions of the country will need to keep the lights on and power the American economy through the 21st Century, noted an agency news release. This week, Advanced Energy United sent a letter to PJM calling on the grid operator to stop dragging its feet and move forward on creating a better process for building long-range transmission lines. We were joined by 27 other organizations on that letter who, despite our range of backgrounds, all agree that Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order No. 1920 is a can’t-miss opportunity to design a more reliable and affordable transmission system by giving states a central role in the planning process. Governors of several states served by PJM also recently called on the grid operator to come up with a plan that complies with FERC's new rules – it’s the kind of strong political leadership that will be required to ensure all grid operators and utilities think and plan regionally when designing the transmission grid of the future. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://lnkd.in/gwqctizC

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission just approved a transformative rule that mandates grid operators to plan 20 years ahead, considering renewable energy demands. When you think of electrical transmission, you might not associate it with making jet fuel or firing boilers at manufacturing plants. But transmission investments are equally important to those sectors. Clean electrons will also be used to create green hydrogen, serving industrial end uses that can’t be directly powered by electricity. Too many wind and solar projects are stuck in years-long interconnection queues, limiting our ability to access round-the-clock clean energy in regions where green hydrogen is most needed. Transmission improvements mean green hydrogen projects can look forward to a more stable and available clean energy supply. This is a pivotal move for our mission to decarbonize and reach net zero.
