Despite the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare delivery, physicians and other healthcare providers should be wary of presumed legal protections. In a recent Federation of State Medical Boards report, the onus physicians remain liable for patient harm and ultimately responsible for patient outcomes, even if AI protocols directed physicians to exercise a plan of care that resulted in the patient harm. The American Medical Association (AMA) wants physicians protected if AI steers them wrong. #artificialintelligence #healthcare #physicians #medicalboards https://lnkd.in/g_RaNzFH

Using AI to streamline clinical operations can enhance patient care by alleviating burdens on physicians. By automating routine tasks and optimizing workflows, AI empowers healthcare professionals to deliver compassionate care while reclaiming valuable time for themselves. This shift away from the "checkbox medicine" cycle, where doctors spend excessive time on documentation, allows them to focus on meaningful interactions with patients. Freed from time-consuming administrative tasks, doctors can devote more attention to patients during visits and find a greater balance between work and personal life. https://lnkd.in/gvTB6PbE. #aiinhealthcare #patientcare #lifesciences

Great #AI and #healthcare discussion by Margaret Lozovatsky, MD, FAMIA, VP, Digital Health Innovations American Medical Association "The way that I envision AI being most instrumental in the care of patients is to be a #synthesizer of #data to help bring that to the #physician, the automation that we discussed that will decrease some of the #cognitive #burden that physicians are experiencing every day and the #administrative #burden that we're experiencing." #augmentedintelligence #clinicalworkflow #optimization https://lnkd.in/ex3FhMJB

Must read for anyone who's felt a doctor's appointment fly by in a blur of medical jargon: Sutter Health, a major health system in California, is teaming up with Abridge, a hot startup using #generativeAI to tackle the mountain of paperwork doctors face. Abridge's AI can listen in on conversations and whip up a draft clinical note in real-time, freeing up doctors for what they do best - seeing patients! What is more, it is developing summaries for patients to take home. No more forgetting what the doctor just said! These summaries will be clear, concise, and even available in multiple languages, making healthcare more accessible for everyone. This isn't Abridge's first rodeo. They've already partnered with other big names like Epic and NVIDIA. With Sutter Health on board, they're poised to make a real impact on healthcare nationwide. #HealthcareInnovation #AI #HealthTech

AI needs governance policies prior to adoption and physician input on the front-end When American Medical Association president Dr. Jesse Ehrenfeld takes the stage in San Diego this month during the HIMSS' AI in Healthcare Forum, he brings AMA principles for augmented intelligence development, deployment and use that were worked out as he began his tenure leading the national physician organization. Ehrenfeld was sworn in as president in June during the annual meeting of the American Medical Association House of Delegates. During the same meeting, the nation's physicians agreed to develop AI principles and recommendations to advise policymakers and protect patients. The AMA board of directors approved and released the principles to AI development this November. Armed with this information, Ehrenfeld will speak at the HIMSS AI in Healthcare Forum in San Diego from 2:30 to 3 p.m. on Friday, December 15 for the "Closing Keynote: Unlocking the Potential: AMA's Initiatives in Advancing AI in Medicine." Technology and AI are disrupting healthcare, and there are no signs of it slowing down, Ehrenfeld said during a recent interview with Healthcare. more here ➡ https://lnkd.in/gHbzJSmf #Healthcare #DigitalCare #Telemedicine #Innovation #ai #healthtech #medicaldevices #health #artificialintelligenceinhealthcare #artificialintelligence #digitalhealth #medicine #software #medtech #it #informationtechnology #technologies

Two things that David McSwain, MD MPH of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill told me should be top of mind when thinking about the use of AI in healthcare: 1) reducing provider burden 2) clinical transparency with regard to AI recommendations. ViTel Net's partnership with Kahun Medical for AI chatbot based triage delivers on both of these initiatives. Providers spend less time in discovery and more time on care planning and treatment, while having the safety of being able to review the peer reviewed medical journals associated with the recommendations provided by the artificial intelligence. Kahun's AI for automated patient triage embedded in ViTel Net's workflow and virtual care platform is a great step forward for safe AI empowered provider productivity.
