The INTERNATIONAL BIRD RINGING PHOTO CONTEST is a nature photography contest organized by the Ringing Scheme of the Aranzadi Sciences Society. The aim of this contest is the divulgation of the the mission, vision and values associated with the scientific ringing of birds, in favor of the research and conservation of this group of living beings. We look for high quality photographs, both technically and aesthetically, of wild, non-captive bird species, tagged with any type of individual identification mark (metal, color or Darvic ring, collar, wing band, etc.) or tracking device (GPS, radio transmitter, etc.). Birds that, through these brands, tell us a story of monitoring and conservation. Birds, in short, that illustrate the why of bird ringing. #photography #photocontest #birdringing #birdconservation

Watching redwings eating berries is a lovely experience…watching them eating a worm, not so much! 🤢  So, why am I sharing this, erm, lovely image? Well, portrait images are bread and butter for a wildlife photographer - there is a reason why the portrait category is usually the most popular in wildlife photography competitions. But, more often than not, our aim is to capture the unique behaviours of the species we have chosen to point our lens at. Not only can images of these moments reveal fascinating insights into the lives of the animals, but they also demonstrate that our subjects are relaxed enough around us to behave naturally in our presence. However, as an amateur wildlife photographer, you might struggle to have enough time with a subject to witness these behaviours. Well, there is one activity that all animals need to do - fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, and everything has to eat. Wildlife photography is a genre of photography concerned with documenting various forms of wildlife in their natural habitat. As well as requiring photography skills, wildlife photographers may need field craft skills. For example, some animals and birds are difficult to approach and thus a knowledge of the animal's and birds behavior is needed in order to be able to predict its actions. Photographing some species may require stalking skills or the use of a hide/blind for concealment. While wildlife photographs can be taken using basic equipment, successful photography of some types of wildlife requires specialist equipment, such as macro lenses for insects, long focal length lenses for birds and underwater cameras for marine life. #wildlifephotography #nature #wildlife

Experiment with your Aperture! There's a great temptation in wildlife photography to shoot wide open whatever the circumstances. A wide aperture has its advantages, obviously, and it'll help you reduce the ISO in low light and achieve a shallow depth of field to separate your subject. However, there are times when you might need to experiment. The classic example is when you're photographing a group of animals or birds. It's very unlikely that they'll all be at exactly the same distance from you, so you'll need a narrower aperture if you want them all to be acceptably sharp. Another occasion is when you want to show detail in the background. Hang on, you might say, don't you want the background to be as blurred as possible? Well, yes, that's often true, but what if you want to show where a photo is taken? You might need more recognisable detail in the mountains, say, than you'd get with f/2.8. Just sayin'... "3D Letter Manipulation" in animals typically refers to the process of creating three-dimensional representations of letters or words using animal bodies or formations. This can be seen, for instance, in nature documentaries or wildlife photography where animals inadvertently form shapes resembling letters when viewed from certain angles. It's essentially a visual phenomenon rather than a deliberate action by the animals themselves.
