Just used the phrase "Scouts honor" in a LinkedIn connection request note. Fun fact: I was in the Boy Scouts of America. Honesty and integrity are important. My father (same name) told me my name means "man of integrity." I believe that. I also believe a lot of people think people in sales are just out to take your money or "scam you." It's sad that is the reality in some cases. Today is my sweet girls 9th birthday so this weekend we took her to Long Neck Manor in Fredericksburg. Giraffes are her favorite animal. 🦒 😍 Pictured is Bettie, the giraffe 🖤 Made me wonder about our similarities. Giraffes are often seen as leaders in their environment due to these unique adaptations and behaviors ⬇️ Height Advantage, gives them an advantage on predators and their prey. Social Structure, they can take a leadership role with in their herd. Calm Demeanor, gentle nature and maintain peace. Communication, they communicate amongst one and other just as we do. Role Models, they present to their young should act in the environment. Giraffes exhibit leadership qualities that help them thrive in their ecosystems. 🦒 I have to mirror all the above in my day to day as a Recruiter, minus the height advantage (I am only 5’8). 👩🏻💻 I must have a solid structure, I have no choice I have to remain calm even when stressed 😝, my role is based off solid communication and I have to lead by example. Resilience in the Face of Setbacks 💪 The recruitment life really is a roller coaster ride (specifically the stealth ride from thorpepark - if you know you know) & recruitment has just not let me off... 🤣 Myself & Luke Stockmayer had 7 job offers on our desk. Each one fell apart due to factors beyond our control, from U-Turns with budget freezes to candidates failing background checks. Gratefully, we have still managed to put revenue on the board over the last two months but it goes to show this game... “ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. I hope my partner doesn't read this, as I am about to confess that I watched Race Across the World without him last night. For those who are watching, I won't spoil anything, but the moment when Betty opened up to James was incredibly powerful. She was really honest about how something had impacted on her. It bought me to tears. I would have jumped in to hug James. Even if they didn't win the race, their journey together throughout this race, has helped them bond and understand each other so much better. This makes them true winners in my mind. Honesty, is a recurring them in our communication skills training. It is crucial to be honest with patients, but it is equally important to practice honesty in a kind and structured way with our colleagues, if things aren't going too well. Sharing a problem with a colleague can be cathartic and offers a chance to see things from their perspective too. Meet the team! ... When I was a kid, my world revolved around Cubs baseball, my entire card collection was basically Cubs players. Now, I'm a husband to my wife, Amy, who I work with every day; we have three incredible [and very busy] kids, and every second that I'm able, I'm fulfilling my lifelong dream of playing fishing guide to them. I'm the CEO and Founder of our company, and that kid who grew up worshipping the Cubbies and Ryne Sandberg comes out in our shared philosophy of "team play," as everything I do is about the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. When I'm not fishing, I'm probably thinking about fishing, but I'm in a meeting with our staff, followed by another meeting with our leadership team, then another meeting with clients, and meetings with potential clients. My attempt to be as productive, efficient, and effective as possible is intertwined with reviewing technology alignment reports and creating 3-5-year budgets. When I'm here, I'm all in, "running the bases with my head down," playing for the team on the front of the Jersey, not the back, helping my team with whatever they need, when they need it, never asking anyone to do something I'm not willing to do myself.
