The Police Chaplain, as a LIVING RESOURCE GUIDE One of the best kept secret police chaplains have because they’re typically clergy. They’re embedded in the community and they know local resources, incident, commanders and police chiefs, can utilize your chaplains for who they know and what they know about resources they know might help the chief, the sheriff, the incident commander on a particular scene, in a situation or critical incident. If you ARE a police chaplain , what you haven’t learned is how to build your own living resource guide If you don’t know the resource your agency may need, this is training that’s something we don’t teach police chaplains how to understand and know your local resources how to vet them how to personally put your reputation on the line when the police chief asked for a particular. part of the rule that we play at Chaplain USA is showing raw footage and some of this is raw footage with Phil prompting me to explain what a living resource guide is. If you want to be an excellent chaplain, you absolutely must know the local resources regional resources and national resources on which you can call upon in a moments notice when the police chief, the incident commander, or sheriff requires it. My name is Jeff Wolfe and I’ve been a police chaplain for about 10 years currently a police chaplain for the Indianapolis international Airport police department. I formally served with IMPD it is important to know local resources. As a senior chaplain and training coordinator for the Chaplain training academy It’s all about the Relationships the police Chaplain you have to know your local resources, your original resources and your national resources. Very pleased to see this study I worked on with Professor Tina Murphy published in Policing & Society. In this paper, we explore the relationship between guardian and warrior policing orientations and support for coercive and procedural justice policing. In line with previous studies, we find that guardian-oriented officers are more likely to support procedural justice policing approaches, and warrior officers are more likely to support coercive policing responses. However, we find that for warrior officers, their support for coercive policing is partially predicted by higher levels of cynicism toward the public, and their reduced support for procedural justice policing is partially predicted by lower levels of perceived self-legitimacy. We discuss the implications of the findings for police policies and practices, particularly as it relates to engagement with disadvantaged and racial and ethnic minority communities. #policing #police #guardian #warrior https://lnkd.in/gUkZgYXH

Exploring the historical roots of U.S. policing reveals its deep ties to slavery and race. Did you know the first modern police forces in the U.S. were established as slave patrols in the Southeastern states? Let's discuss how this past shapes our understanding of policing today. On April 19, 1995, in Perry, Oklahoma, Trooper Charles Hanger, while patrolling I-35, noticed a yellow Mercury Marquis without a license plate. This observation led to a traffic stop and the eventual arrest of Timothy McVeigh, the infamous Oklahoma City bomber. Similarly, on May 31, 2003, Officer Jeff Postell in Murphy, North Carolina, encountered something unusual during a routine patrol at 4 a.m. He interrogated a suspicious individual behind a Save-A-Lot store, which resulted in the arrest of Erick Rudolph, the Olympic Park bomber. These instances highlight not mere luck, but the result of vigilance and proactiveness in law enforcement. Trooper Hanger's alertness and dedication to duty were instrumental in his notable arrest. Officer Postell, rather than remaining passive during early hours, chose to actively patrol, leading to a significant arrest. These examples underscore that extraordinary police work often stems from officers who consistently exert effort in every aspect of their duty. In the grand scheme of police work, shooting skills, physical ability and driving ability all add to an officer’s skills, knowledge and ability, and are beneficial but the “great” cops put forth effort every day and on every assignment. I have known them. I have seen their work. Every department has them and everyone knows who they are. They challenge themselves intellectually and take time on an assignment or while on patrol, then go home with a sense of accomplishment at the end of a tour of duty. Patrol work can become rote, boring and routine if you let it. It can become mentally challenging, rewarding and exciting if you want it to. You can sit hour after hour or day after day just waiting for that hot call or you can put forth effort to become a great cop, by your effort. I have worked with many great cops. I knew them well as did everyone else. These great cops put forth effort. ———— Purchase my Book, Ethics-Based Policing: Solving the Use of Excessive Force, using the following links: Amazon: https://amzn.to/3N5M45U Barnes and Noble: bit.ly/3KHWc4w Indie Bound: bit.ly/3n1nucs Bookshop: bit.ly/3JknsUh Learn more about me at https://lnkd.in/eY3Mx3Tr #police #lawenforcement. #leadership #ethics #firstresponders #policeofficer #thinblueline #backtheblue #policetraining #author

In light of this, I urge the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (@OACPOfficial) to take a bold stand on addressing the mental health of their members. The time for action is now. While we commend the ongoing efforts, it is crucial to move beyond mere acknowledgments and take concrete steps to support the mental well-being of those who protect and serve our communities. Operational stress injuries, including post-traumatic stress and suicidal ideation, are real challenges that require more than lip service; they demand action, understanding, and comprehensive support systems. Let us not forget that behind every badge, there is a human being deserving of care, support, and understanding. As we celebrate the achievements of our newest members, let's also commit to ensuring their mental health and well-being are prioritized. The journey of a peacekeeper is both challenging and rewarding, and by fostering an environment that genuinely addresses mental health, we empower our officers to thrive, not just survive. #Badgeoflifecanada #HopeGrowthRecovery #Calltoaction #PAO
