What an interesting read- in todays sector the growth in “trust based philanthropy” is also on the rise. Something that all CSOs need to build in their funding repitore.

Since the inauguration, I have heard and read several times in equity/social justice-centered non-profit spaces that these are "unprecedented times”. *takes a breath* To be brief, and as direct as possible: This ease into overwhelm and dispair, while claiming to be community leaders (let alone organizers), is exhaustingly counterproductive to the kind of stamina, resilience, and analysis required to meet "these times". Fear-mongering only feeds the agenda of empire and oligarchy. While I can speak at length about the many contradictions of the non profit industrial complex, particularly the ways in which NPOs have co-opted and have been positioned to co-op (and dilute) movement work, I do believe that nonprofits are the closest legal framework we have for people to create civic institutions owned by the people. (Would love to talk more about this with folks). Organizers operating within this sector have a responsibility to grow a backbone and make ourselves useful. Ground yourself in history, practice some radical optimism, and get to work.

Apply Now, deadline is August 2024! In the face of a changing economy, dwindling budgets and stretched-thin staff, nonprofit leaders are beginning to recognize they can’t afford not to collaborate. As a result, organizations are seeking out opportunities to work together in new ways- to leverage resources, share strengths, increase efficiencies, reduce overlap and develop scaled-up organizational model- to tackle our most complex social issues. In fact, collaboration can even be appealing to funders because it increases the likelihood that they’ll see a greater impact for their investment. Join the Resilient Church Collective and strengthen our communities together. https://lnkd.in/gmJTQWuM #AGW #allianceforgreaterworks #TogetherTuesday #texaspastors #resilientchurchcollective #community #texaschurches #ResilientChurches #StrengtheningCommunities #CollectiveImpact #EfficientOrganizations #ResourceSharing #NonprofitLeaders #CommunityDevelopment #SocialImpact #NonprofitCollaboration

If you ask me about a social justice approach in philanthropy, I would say it's about addressing the root causes of societal problems. But if you ask me at a deeper level, I would say: ▶️ It moves us from locating the 'problem' with the community, to locating the problem as the system they live in, and this is the critical distinction. So you move from trying 'fix' the community to 'fixing' the system. ▶️You recognise the intersection of multiple systems which are keeping people stuck in inequality. That shift from individual to structural, is moving from equity to justice. ▶️ It has always been an approach used in the history of UK philanthropy, it's part of our revolutionary origins ( Rhodri Davies https://lnkd.in/eg2fFAsb ) ▶️ The approach has been summarised by the Resource Generation, so we don't need to argue about what it means...https://lnkd.in/eF97EUWY ▶️ The philosophical foundations which can be used by funders was described in detail here..https://lnkd.in/eg6FZsrG ▶️ and here's a good summary article https://lnkd.in/emt-VJFX And obviously for me, it's all about philanthropy being truly transformative: https://lnkd.in/eK9tzMRn Enjoy the reading!

These are the votes with the most impact. When we cast them to inspire people and to build systems of support and social enterprise, we make it easier for people to believe a sustainable future is possible. And once we all believe, believe at a critical mass, as we build out supports and systems for ourselves and our unique community needs, our votes add up to transformative change seemingly overnight. #CommunityWealth #CommunityBrands #SocialEnterprise #SocialEconomy #ForPurpose #PeopleOverProfit
