Presentation Coach for Law Firms & Legal Teams || Helping lawyers make great presentations to become go-to advisors || Former BigLaw, government, and in-house lawyer || Speaker || Trainer
Great presenters and facilitators never skip this step: Choosing the right learning objectives. Most Legal presentations are doomed to be forgettable because the speaker's learning objectives are way too broad: ❌ Regulatory landscape 101 ❌ 2024 antitrust updates ❌ Developments in trade secret The problem with these (non-)themes is that they don't help you decide what should stay in and out of your talk. So you'll end up delivering an unfiltered stream of information that your audience doesn't need and can't use. Instead, ask yourself: who is this audience, and why would they show up? What do they want to learn? And what do you want them to believe or be able to do differently when you're done? Then sharpen your learning objectives based on your answers. For example: 🟢 Identify 3 key regulatory risks to prioritize in vendor contracts 🟢 Implement a 5-step checklist for complying with new antitrust rules 🟢 Craft an action plan to protect trade secrets in a remote workforce Now these learning objectives are specific, actionable, and tailored to the audience's needs. They give you a clear roadmap for what to include and what to leave out. Most importantly, they set you up to deliver a talk that will leave your audience with practical insights they can apply right away. So next time you're preparing a Legal presentation, don't settle for broad, vague learning objectives. Dig deeper to uncover what your audience truly needs to know and do, then build your entire talk around those specific goals. You’ll create a far better and more engaging experience for both you and your audience. P.S. For more practical Legal presentation upgrades, grab my free email course here: bit.ly/3wOna5q

🔍 Navigating the Challenges of Updating Material to Meet New Mandates We often hear from clients that they need to modify existing material to comply with new mandates. 📚 Whether it's adapting to updated regulations, incorporating the latest industry standards, or aligning with new educational goals, the process can be daunting. Here are a few common pain points we encounter: Resource Constraints: Tight timelines and limited budgets can make it difficult to thoroughly revise materials. Consistency Issues: Ensuring that all updated content remains consistent and cohesive across various modules and courses can be a complex task. Stakeholder Coordination: Balancing the input and requirements from multiple stakeholders while maintaining the integrity of the instructional design is often a delicate act. Quality Assurance: Maintaining high-quality standards throughout the revision process requires meticulous attention to detail and continuous review. We have helped clients update, revise, and modify course content, health and safety materials, policies, procedures, assessments, and more. Seasoned L&D practitioner with 20 years of experience creating, implementing, and evaluating end-to-end training solutions for onboarding, technical, and leadership training.
What made you smile today? For a couple of years, I experienced full-time consultancy work. I supported great minds and hearts in the transformative, progressive, and creative L&D space in the NGO world. I learned that people need to be seen, felt, and heard - hence the need for "connection before content". I witnessed this learning phenomenon in action. In this video, Chad Littlefield shares a simple cheat code to make this happen: Connect people to each other. Connect to the purpose of why you're here. Create the option or choice for authenticity and vulnerability. I tried to incorporate "connection before content" in my training design proposals for the corporate world. Of course these activities were met with comments like "too long, trim all of these fat and jump right in to content". In the corporate world, time is money. People attending training are non-productive. Depending on SOWs, training usually means non-billable hours. It is what it is. So the challenge for learning experience designers is to make this happen in stealth mode. It is possible. We've seen it happen, we've made it happen. It doesn't take too much for people to feel like people, not products to be tagged defective or ready for consumption after attending a training session. What made you smile today? <see?> https://lnkd.in/ggbm4h-F

What is a Learning Consultant and how can it help your business? Whenever I'm asked what is a learning consultant, I find it difficult to articulate. Not because it I don't know what I do, but because the role varies dependent on a clients particular need and the list is long. A learning consultant solves business problems or supports new opportunities through understanding the business and what they want to improve or change. As the work is driven from that business conversation and particular situation the work is mostly bespoke. They will generally ask questions to understand the problem or opportunity the audience, the structure of the business, the current situation and the ideal situation. They will draw experience from other relative past situations or from what is happening in the market, and come back with a range of solutions. Some of these solutions may be in-house or designed and delivered by the consultant or an associate. Some quick examples of problems or opportunities are: 🔶 Struggling to onboard or induct new starts. 🔷 Employees now have to do something different - new product or process 🔶 High attrition rate or high default, failure or breach rate 🔷 Want to make a behavioural or cultural shift 🔶 Struggling to schedule and track training progress 🔷 Struggling to write, deliver and keep training up to date 🔶 Need some trackable e-learning 🔷 In house training isn't working 🔶 Need employees or managers to adopt a consistent way of working 🔷 Leadership spending too much time designing and delivering training The list could go on and on, so the answer to what does a learning Consultant do isn't quite "so you do training then" although that catch all line does help move the conversation along. Behind the scenes.. another employee ambassador training with the awesome Kira Hagström. Kira had to flee the room before I was able to produce a post worthy picture of the occasion 😅 Key takeaways: -think of the audience.. your some bubble doesnt reflect everyone. If you are talking to people not as much like yourself - then especially take the extra effort to try to go in their shoes -do your own thing. Be authentic. But of course be conscious of your professional role and of the guidelines and wishes of your employer. -keep it short and neat. One point per post. Snackable content. This is something I especially struggle with 😊
