Stop going on disappointing holidays Start doing ‘Lessons learned’. No exaggeration, this has transformed our holidays from endurance events → joy. It’s so simple: - I keep a list of 'Holiday Lessons Learned' in my notes - After each holiday I add a few I like to do this on the way home: - So I can ask my husband and kids what they’d keep/change (they always think of things I didn’t) - And so I model the practice for my kids. (Deliberate reflection is a powerful habit they can use their whole lives long) I write the lessons down because - it makes your reflections deeper - you can check the file before your next holiday. You can see some of my ‘lessons learned’ below. (You don't want to know how we learned 'no milk on transport for Freya...) Do you have any lessons learned from this summer? Repost to help everyone have better holidays, and follow Rachel Carrell for more like this

Reflecting over the festive break and as always the question of New Year's resolutions got me thinking. While I typically focus on year-round goals of healthier eating and more activity, it's essential to acknowledge the achievements beyond those intentions. In 2023, with only a few personal resolutions, I accomplished quite a bit along the way, ✅ Celebrated 12 smoke-free months as of 15th December 2023 – a significant milestone. ✅ Devoted time to read or listen to one book monthly for a year. ✅ Cut back on alcohol and discovered a passion for various non-alcoholic beverages. ✅ Shed 10.4kg from July to December 2023 (though some might have returned over the holidays!). ✅ Made some big, bold career moves. ✅ Rebalanced my work-life equation, ending the year feeling more fulfilled. ✅ Contributed to creating 100+ football opportunities for grassroots and girls' football, dedicating two evenings a week to coaching in the local community. So, for this year, I'm skipping specific resolutions. Instead, focusing on monthly goal setting, continue what's working, knowing that unforeseen opportunities will shape my goals throughout the year. Ultimately, the journey matters just as much as the destination. Here's to a year of growth, unexpected triumphs, and embracing every moment! 🚀✨ #YearRoundGoals #ReflectingOnAchievements #EmbraceTheJourney"

Thought for the Day: Starting The New Year Behind "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." - Anne Frank The week between Christmas and the new year always seems to go by faster than I expect. It’s a full seven days like any other week but because of the craziness of the holidays it just seems to fly by. Maybe I’m overestimating what I can accomplish during that week, but there tends to be a pretty lengthy list of things that I wanted to do that don’t get done. One thing that’s on my list every year is to reflect on the past year and look forward to the year ahead. I want to be intentional about celebrating the wins and meaningful moments the year produced and prepare to start the new year on the right foot. This includes calling out the things that I want to accomplish in the upcoming year. This intentional reflection time was one of the many things on my holiday week list, and like so many other things, it was one I didn’t get to. Now I’m three days in to the new year and already feel like I’m behind. I missed my chance to start off the year the way I wanted. I know I’m not alone here. Many of us set an intention to start something new or stop a habit going into 2024 and for one reason or another never made it to the starting line. If that’s you, here’s the great thing about the new year…..it’s just another day. The only thing special about it is we change a number. It’s not a day that has some magical powers that only exist on that day. We view the new year as an opportunity to start fresh, but we don’t need a specific day to do that. Today can be that day. Make January 3rd the start of something special for you. It’s never too late to start and just because we miss a change going into the new year, doesn’t mean the year is lost. Today is the best day to be better.

The holiday season for a lot of people who celebrate Christmas is behind us. A lot of the excitement and holidays are over and there is one entire year ahead of us. Normally this should be another great reason to get excited and at the same time, usually what happens to me is that I experience a dip. Who amongst the readers recognises the difficulty to get back to the routine, to work, to school? On top of that comes the pressure of the New Year! Whatever, I was not able to achieve or do is in the past. This year will be my year! I will lose weight, I will get that promotion, I will finally…New year, new me… For a couple of years now I have disregarded the New Year's resolutions which I found puts a further unnecessary pressure on me. I found what works better for me is to simply set an intention and check in regularly whether I am aligned to it or not. For this year my intention is to do things intentionally and with purpose. I have heard other people just anchor themselves with a word: e.g. ease, effortlessness. This way, I invite freedom, I find myself instead of being locked up in something too concrete, more flexible as of course, I know things will evolve during this year as well. Something expands and I feel ready to welcome all the possibilities that will be coming my way with an open heart! What is your take on New Year's resolutions? I would love to hear if this is something that you find useful or if you have found something else in the yearly cycle of things that works better for you? Thank you for sharing! 👐 #newyearresolution #pressure #intention #purpose #freedom #possibilities #openheart

Hope you had a good fun welcoming the new year past midnight. Though it’s a holiday today for many, it’s a good idea to start the first day of the year on a positive note. While welcoming the new year, all the last year’s resolutions must have passed through your mind giving you more pain. Because you might not have started or completed the resolutions and goals as expected. No worries though one year has gone by, you are never too old to start over. Today is the chance to make changes to create the life you wanted. Instead of repenting for what you could not do, or things you missed, focus on making changes in your life to create results. Here are some pointers to start over and have wonderful year ahead. Ø Start small and be consistent with it. Ø Break down bigger goals into daily actionable steps. Ø Eliminate things which are beyond your limits as of now. Ø Simplify things – stop using complex tools and processes. Ø Decide one professional skill you will add this year. Ø Focus on your health and make changes in lifestyle. Ø Work on your hobby and passion. Ø Meet people and enhance your network. Ø Live life within your capacity and save for emergencies. Wishing you all a very happy New Year! #mondaymotivation #happynewyear #newbeginnings

Happy New Year 2024! 🎉🌟 As we embark on another journey around the sun, let’s embrace the fresh start and endless possibilities that lie ahead. This year, let’s choose to focus on positivity, inspiration, and spreading happiness wherever we go. 2023 might have brought its fair share of challenges and uncertainties, but we’ve proven time and again that we are resilient and capable of overcoming anything that comes our way. Let’s carry this strength with us as we step into the new year. Let’s make a conscious effort to appreciate the little things that bring us joy – a beautiful sunset, a warm cup of coffee, or a heartfelt conversation with a loved one. Let’s cherish these moments and find gratitude in the simplest of things. This year, let’s challenge ourselves to dream bigger, think outside the box, and pursue our passions with unwavering determination. Remember, the only limits that exist are the ones we set for ourselves. So, let’s break free from self-imposed restrictions and soar to new heights. Let’s also remember to be kind and compassionate towards others. A small act of kindness can have a ripple effect, spreading love and positivity far beyond our expectations. Let’s lend a helping hand, listen with empathy, and support one another in our individual journeys. As we set our goals and resolutions for the year ahead, let’s not forget to prioritize self-care and personal well-being. Take time to nurture your mind, body, and soul. Practice self-love, indulge in hobbies that bring you joy, and surround yourself with positive influences. Let’s also be mindful of our impact on the world around us. Let’s make conscious choices that promote sustainability and protect our environment. Every small step towards a greener future counts, and together, we can make a significant difference. In 2024, let’s choose to see the silver linings, even in the darkest of clouds. Let’s celebrate our victories, learn from our failures, and grow stronger with every experience. This year holds endless possibilities, and with a positive mindset, we can make it the best one yet. So, here’s to a year filled with laughter, love, and countless moments of joy. May 2024 bring you success, happiness, and fulfillment in all aspects of your life. Happy New Year, my dear friends! Let’s make it an extraordinary one! 🌟❤️

This is the kind of work that really changes the world. Often during my presentations around wholeness and mental health, I get asked about whether I do any work in helping to facilitate conversations with men who are struggling. And my response is: "I can't." Men have to change the narrative from "men don't talk" to "men talk". And this is exactly what my friend/sometimes coach/perpetual sounding board is doing. Reach out. Talk. Connect. #mentalhealth #personalgrowth #connection
Hey there, Gents! The holidays might not have been a breeze for many of us, and that's totally okay. Sometimes things don't go as planned, and that's just life. Whether you had a tough time, couldn't be with loved ones, or felt a bit low entering the new year – it's alright to feel that way. You don't have to be on top of everything all the time. Now that we're back at work after the festivities, it's easy to switch gears and dive into our tasks, grateful for a break from all that holiday buzz. But here's the thing about pressure – it tends to build up. Guys, it's crucial that we open up to each other. That's why I'm passionate about the work I do with David Daniels at Man in the Mirror, a space just for us men. We tackle the challenges that come with being a guy in 2024. If you're curious about joining our men-only group, reach out to either me or David. There's absolutely no charge; it's just men supporting men. Let's chat, support one another, and navigate this journey together. You're not alone.

How are you feeling after the 4th of July holiday? We often talk about the excitement leading up to a major holiday or the satisfaction of completing a significant project. But what about that empty feeling that can follow both experiences? After weeks of planning, excitement, and celebration, the holiday season wraps up, leaving behind a quiet house and a sense of longing. The festive decorations come down, and the hustle and bustle fade away, leaving us reminiscing about the joyful moments and the togetherness shared. In the professional world, completing a major project brings its own kind of silence. After months of intense focus, late nights, and collaborative efforts, the project is finally done. The adrenaline rush subsides, and there's a sudden void where the constant activity used to be. Both of these experiences highlight an important aspect of our human nature: the need for purpose and connection. The void left behind can be challenging, but it also presents an opportunity for reflection and renewal. Here are a few tips to navigate this phase: - Acknowledge the Achievement: Take time to celebrate what you've accomplished, whether it's a holiday well-spent or a project successfully completed. - Reconnect with Your Purpose: Reflect on what drives you and find new goals or projects that align with your passions. - Recharge: Use this time to rest and recharge, preparing yourself for the next big challenge or celebration. Remember, the quiet moments after the peak experiences are a natural part of life, allowing us to appreciate our achievements and set the stage for new beginnings! #4thofJuly #IndependenceDay #PostHolidayBlues #PostProjectLull #JDE #JDEdwards
