Today was so good, sitting in #jamaica with Chris Smith, MRICS and Alexandra Faciu, MA MRICS A few takeaways:- what we can do better, we learnt so much about the region how we can communicate better, and how well Chris has been leading this region for a huge period of change for RICS. RICS is issuing this Practice Alert to all RICS members globally for special attention of all candidates, trainees and students enrolled as a member of the Attached Class with RICS. The purpose is to remind you: how to correctly use RICS Designations, Logos and Trademarks. the requirement to provide accurate information to RICS. the requirement under Rule 2 of the Rules of Conduct to ensure that all candidates and trainees are supervised by RICS members when undertaking surveying services to the public. the requirement that all candidates and trainees in the UK must only undertake RICS home surveys with physical internal and external inspections under the direct supervision of a qualified and experienced RICS member who is also physically present on site. https://lnkd.in/gbS6j7Es

As we start a New Year, we welcome a new RICS President. Justin Sullivan has become the 143rd president of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Justin is the founder and CEO of London and Epsom based construction consultancy business Adair and Bolton Birch welcomes him to this prominent role. RICS, is the UK professional body operating in the development and management of land, real estate, construction and infrastructure across more than 140 countries globally. It was founded in 1868. Bolton Birch’s surveyors have the RICS Charter and the practice is proud to be a RICS Registered firm notably for Client Money Handling essential for the Property Management side of the business run by Martin Dodd and Valuations with Jonty Goodchild, a RICS Registered Valuer. Sullivan said he looks forward to serving as president of the organisation that has supported and promoted the surveying profession for over 150 years. He said; "The UK faces many challenges. Whilst RICS certainly has an incredible history, my eyes are firmly set on the future.” Sullivan leads the governing council that sets the global strategy for RICS and fulfils its Royal Charter obligations. A Vision for a Member-Led RICS: Building Bridges, Driving Value As a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer with a deep-rooted commitment to our profession, I am running for RICS Governing Council because our profession is at a critical juncture. The RICS has the potential to be a dynamic, member-led force that shapes the built environment. However, we must be bold in our position. To ensure that the RICS remains at the forefront of the built environment, we must not only articulate the unique value we offer but also actively demonstrate it. By showcasing our expertise, leadership, and commitment to excellence, we can solidify our position as the go-to professional body. Moreover, collaborating with other professional bodies will benefit the industry as a whole. My second key priority is: Enhanced Inter-Professional Collaboration: Building stronger relationships with other professional bodies will foster a more unified and effective industry. I'll work to initiate and maintain collaborative efforts on key issues such as sustainability, governance, and ethics. Our goal should be to be an equal partner, contributing our unique perspectives and expertise while also learning from others. APC candidates preparing to submit your application to become a Chartered Surveyor with RICS? Before you hit submit, don't forget to gather your Proposer and Seconders!   As a reminder, RICS requires all APC candidates to have one proposer and two seconders who can vouch for their professionalism, expertise, and character. These individuals play a crucial role in supporting your application and ensuring you meet the required standards for RICS membership.   The proposer and seconders all must be MRICS or FRICS (they can be a friend or family member as long as they are an RICS member). At least one out of the three need to be from a separate organisation with the candidate.
