I was proud to vote yesterday in favor of requiring high-volume rideshare providers (namely Uber and Lyft) to use 100% electric and/or wheelchair-accessible vehicles by 2030, making NYC’s streets cleaner, more accessible, and quieter. As I noted in my comments during the vote, this shift will include collaboration with manufacturers to develop electric wheelchair-accessible vehicles. In addition, the deployment of public fast chargers must keep pace with TLC drivers’ needs, or we’ll risk falling short of the goal and will need to amend the plan. Looking forward to NYC once again leading the nation in sustainability - more transit riders than all other U.S. cities combined, and now, cleaner streets. https://lnkd.in/e4vJ-h4t

More and more cities are exploring the potential of micro-transit solutions as a "last mile" alternative to traditional fixed bus routes. However, investing in micro-transit requires a deep understanding of movement patterns and customer needs. It's interesting to think about the potential of combining last-mile delivery services with micro-transit solutions to reduce the number of heavy-duty vehicles on the roads. Check out this article for more information on how Decatur officials are proposing to reduce fixed bus routes and introduce micro-transit: https://lnkd.in/emwUSKuc

📢 Press Release Alert 📢: Metro Micro, the largest #microtransit service in the U.S. launched by Los Angeles Metro and RideCo On-Demand Transit, has recently surpassed 1.8 million rides. This growth milestone was achieved while driving a 39% improvement in cost per passenger ride and maintaining high customer satisfaction with an average 4.7/5 trip rating. “Our guiding principle is to expand access to high-quality transit for residents of L.A., especially in areas that are underserved by fixed-route bus service and in equity focused communities. Our analysis of ridership in these zones shows that more people live or work within a five-minute walk of a Micro stop than the current fixed-route network in these zones. This flexible service is increasing access to jobs, health care, and education, and bringing new riders to Metro’s fixed-route network,” said Conan Cheung, Chief Operations Officer of LA Metro. “We have taken major steps through our continued partnership with RideCo, innovating with Metro Micro to significantly advance the services offered to our customers in a cost-effective manner.” Read the full press release here and learn how RideCo and LA Metro are providing a more convenient yet cost-effective service: https://hubs.li/Q02rFg_d0 #PressRelease #LAMetro #OnDemand

Via's latest "Integrated Transit" platform is on full display in the City of Sioux Falls, and it's personally very validating to see the years of hard work pay off. This is a model for public transit in mid-sized cities everywhere (and this editor at Sioux Falls Live is clearly in love). TL;DR – The city layered one massive microtransit zone on top of its existing fixed-route bus network, increasing public transit coverage from 45% to 100% of Sioux Falls residents. – When passengers plan a trip using the app Via developed for the city, the tech automatically calculates the perfect multimodal route between the bus and shuttles depending on what is most efficient. – In turn, public transit ridership has grown across the board since we launched. Passengers wait less, take more direct trips, and can access transit from anywhere in the city. It should always be that easy!

“You can have any vehicle as long as it’s not a car.” This is the central tenet to South LA’s impressive ‘mobility wallet’, which provides $150/month to be spent on any form of mobility -except car ownership. It places the power in the hands of the people to determine which form of transport best suits them, and is a world away from the walled gardens of nascent branded cities, whose unique environments often require unique mobility solutions. For South LA, Universal Basic Mobility generates a valuable holistic data-set of mobility types used, and a way to reduce emissions through usage not vehicle technology. https://lnkd.in/efTjJ8Ru #mobilityasaservice #universalbasicincome #userexperience

The last mile to public transit. When the Governor of New Jersey filed a lawsuit to delay New York City’s new congestion pricing fees, I couldn’t help thinking how the Roam™ marketplace will help to solve many aspects of transportation, both public and private. Ridership is one key to efficiency – but first, let’s recap. New York City has been in the news for their planned congestion pricing policy, which will require fees to travel through parts of Manhattan that are especially impacted by frequent standstill traffic delays. The plan is estimated to put $15B of revenue into subway repairs, additional train cars, and a Second Avenue line extension into East Harlem. But these legal challenges will put at risk this major funding source, which is meant to keep all of New York City’s subway working. Transit authority officials say that losing it will mean a “return to the bad old days” and “service decline.” But why do we care? The Roam™ mission includes a commitment to support public transit, which we see as crucial to our well-functioning “built environment” and which is made stronger when it is in greater use by more riders. One way the Roam™ community will support public transit is by being a “last mile” solution for those who need to reach their public transit hub. By offering riders a cost that’s as low as 1/10th of a taxi, Uber, or Lyft ride, our mobile app can help achieve this at scale. So while we’ll fill up the back seats of cars with our local, community-based carpooling solution, we’ll also endeavor to fill public transit seats. Join us. We envision a future driven by you. www.roam-marketplace.com #community, #transportation, #ridesharing, #socialcapital, #efficiency, #uniteconomics, #climatechangemitigation
