Thanks to POLITICO's California Climate reporter Alex Nieves for spotlighting Zūm’s milestone of deploying a 100% electric school bus fleet in Oakland, California, with bidirectional chargers that send energy back to the grid. We are proud to be creating a cleaner, greener transportation experience for students in Oakland Unified School District, and we are already in the process of electrifying other school districts nationwide. 📰 "DRIVING DOWN EMISSIONS": new article from University of Michigan - Rackham Graduate School features Maxwell Woody's research on EV 🚗⚡contributions to national emissions goals. Woody shared: "The big picture motivation for a lot of my research is addressing #climatechange, and #transportation is the biggest contributor to that in the United States... Our research lays out how far we have to go, but also shows it's attainable and practical." Read all about his two recent studies in the article below! ⤵

The Bay Area’s leading role in electric-vehicle adoption is producing a measurable drop in the region’s carbon footprint and contribution to the battle against climate change, new research from University of California, Berkeley suggests. Last March, the Bay Area became the first U.S. metropolitan area where half of all new vehicle registrations were for EVs and hybrids, according to S&P Global Mobility. In a paper published Thursday in the journal Environmental Science & Technology Ltd, UC Berkeley professor Ronald Cohen and researchers Naomi Asimow and Alexander Turner report that a network of nearly 60 carbon dioxide sensors around the Bay Area, mostly atop middle- and high-school buildings, provide the first evidence that electrified vehicles are lowering carbon emissions here. https://lnkd.in/eKAH-WSg #ElectricVehicles #EVs #CarbonFootprint #SFBayArea #Environment Joint Venture Silicon Valley

"All models are wrong but some are useful" George Box Just watched an eye-opening session on the En-ROADS climate simulation tool by Prof. John Sterman from MIT Sloan School of Management 🌍🔬 The En-ROADS free simulator provides a powerful way to explore climate solutions and estimate the temperature change it will lead to. After experimenting with various scenarios, one thing became crystal clear: Increasing carbon price has the most significant impact on reducing temperature rise 💰🌡️ Why it matters? • Drives innovation in clean technologies • Encourages energy efficiency across sectors • Shifts investments towards low-carbon alternatives • Expands renewable energies production While the model may not be 100% accurate, it offers decision-makers a compelling visual representation of various "what-if" scenarios. This view is hard to ignore –we must act now! Links in the comments #ClimateAction #CarbonPricing #Sustainability

The controversial environment-saving tech that sounds like it was pitched by a stoned teenager — “You should, like, suck all the carbon stuff out of the sky or whatever” — is suddenly a very real thing. Direct air capture (DAC) is the emerging atmosphere-restoring process of sucking in large quantities of air, stripping out carbon dioxide molecules, then transferring that carbon into underground storage. But could it really work? That's exactly the question we're trying to answer in today's edition of The Hustle. Catch up on it here⬇️
Sky vacuums may not reduce carbon, but they sure are good at sucking up billions

What’s next for our research into the environmental impacts of different #efuels? The international members of this research task will conduct a workshop, ‘Environmental Impacts of Different Electric Vehicles – Assessing the Climate Neutrality and Circularity Potentials’, in Vienna, Austria. During this session, the research team will analyse the environmental effects of 2-wheelers, construction machinery, and ships with different propulsion systems based on a full life cycle analysis. Follow us to stay informed on the event and its findings. #ElectricVehicles #EV #ElectricMobility #Innovation #eBus #eTruck

ICYMI: Great study out of UC Berkeley (published in Env Sci & Tech) reports that electric vehicles are making a difference in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. Researchers Ron Cohen, Naomi Asimow and Alexander Turner analyzed data from ~60 carbon dioxide sensors around the Bay Area. “I would really like people to see this as an add-on to our success at reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” Cohen said. “We show from atmospheric measurements that adoption of electric vehicles is working, that it’s having the intended effect on CO2 emissions.” It's proven that EVs work... so let's get to work accelerating the transition away from gas-powered vehicles. To increase the benefits for air quality and reduced carbon emissions, we must lower barriers for everyone to access the benefits of EVs - including providing EV charging access for all. More good news from Blue state California, presaging what I hope will become the dominant trend in rail. It is interesting that California has led the country in innovations for many years, and this pre-eminence seems to continue. This is an example of what I mean when I say to prepare for what climate change is going to do we need new technologies, and must not allow ourselves to be trapped by carbon energy corporations that care only for their short-term profit and nothing for social wellbeing.
