Did you know that five generations work side by side for the first time in history? Each generation brings unique perspectives and insights, and companies that invest in an age-diverse workforce benefit from increased knowledge sharing, upskilling, productivity, and employee retention. This year, our Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Sarah Hassaine, and her team led a series of global workshops to celebrate BIDS Day, an enterprise-wide program, to learn what it means to embrace a multigenerational workforce that leverages each other’s strengths and skill sets to increase connectedness while boosting creativity and our capacity to innovate. During the sessions, we underwent training on age diversity and how to harness a team with 4-5 generations. After that, we participated in engaging activity-based exercises, including the acting debut of some of our own ResMedians, John Barger, Laurel Leyva, and Cathy Liem, in interactive scenarios. At ResMed, we’re committed to fostering a positive culture of belonging, inclusion, and diversity for success (culture work that we call “BIDS”), and being inclusive is a core competency of all ResMedians. BIDS Day is not only a learning engagement but also a celebration of all ResMedians and serves as a transformative opportunity for everyone to come together and work toward a vibrant and dynamic workplace where everyone belongs, feels appreciated, and respected. Through Rizing Tide Foundation I was afforded the opportunity to attend this year’s WebPT Ascend Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. Over the course of two days, several speaker sessions were offered to cover business topics ranging from physical therapy staffing shortages to employee engagement and alternative practice models. A reoccurring theme throughout the event was a conversation surrounding transparency in our profession. Previously, I’ve highlighted the importance of transparency for prospective students considering the costs of education. In a similar vein, we as professionals need to create a sense of transparency in the workplace. Unveiling the economics of our operations to improve understanding of reimbursement rates, profit margins and key performance indicators can instill trust, accountability, and ingenuity within our organizations. How often do we share vital information in good faith, with the understanding that knowledge is the precursor to problem solving? Have you noticed isolationist attitudes that push agendas while lacking adequate explanation or consultation? I envision a future where ideas and information are shared more freely—to increase the quality of possibilities available to us. As Steve Tashjian put so aptly in his keynote address, “The depth of collaborative relationship is related to the willingness to accept risk.” #future #change #transparency #ascend2023

This week marks #InternationalWeekofDeafPeople, (17th - 24th September), and #InternationalDayofSignLanguages, (23rd September). So, as part of our commitment to #equalopportunities, TVS Supply Chain Solutions UK & Europe wanted to find out more about what it is like to be D/deaf in the workplace. It is important to recognise that this project was compiled by consulting and working closely with colleagues with #livedexperience of what it is like to be D/deaf or hard of hearing and the resulting content, which has been shared widely across the business, included Q & A sessions, frank discussions, some heart-warming anecdotal evidence, and lots of top tips for making the workplace more #inclusive. One suggestion which I loved and which seems obvious, (once you've thought about it!), is to put signs up around workplaces that carry a a message to remind people that your colleagues might not be able to hear you! Another, is to check the acoustics of meeting rooms, and remember not to speak and write on a white board at the same time! Here are just some of the comments shared to make meetings that little bit more pleasurable and that might help us all improve our #communicationskills. I would like to express my gratitude to those involved, and if you have your own tips for making workplaces more inclusive for people with #hiddendisabilities, please share in the comments below! 💚 #IWDP #IDSL
