A reported £650k was spent by West Northamptonshire Council on new paths at Delapré Abbey and I've got questions... To be clear, Delapré Abbey themselves had nothing to do with the development of the paths, it was all down to West Northants Council When you combine this with, ❇️ The new Northampton marketplace, which could have been so much more for a reported £12million ❇️ Accessibility issues on the Persimmon Homes development in Towcester, which I successfully campaigned against and had changes made Is a pattern of mistakes, missed moments and zero engagement with the local disabled community, emerging from all of this? What are your thoughts on the paths at Delapré Abbey? Has it made the area more or less accessible for you? #Accessibility #AccessibleOutdoors #DisabilityAwareness #AccessibilityVideo

Nearly every other effort at community betterment – economic growth, quality of life, early childhood learning and more, will be hindered if public safety is inadequately addressed. It is necessary to take a broad perspective of what constitutes public safety – yes, it includes law enforcement and fire suppression but also emergency planning, emergency communications, building codes and inspections, safe street design, safe collection and disposal of waste and the provision of safe drinking water to name but a few. Nonetheless, if people do not feel that they, their families and their belongings are safe in their homes, neighborhoods and businesses, few other efforts at community development will be as successful as they could otherwise be.

Intergenerational neighborliness is a win-win-win-win-win-win-win-win-win. Our ages from four years old to 86, and that heterogeneity is key to our collective thriving. The youngin’s offer energy, delight, and a sense of hope. The elders offer perspective, wisdom, and remind us to slow down and move at the speed of real relationships. Everyone in between has various gifts, skills, and ways of shaping their days and contributions. Neighbors of different generations not only need one another, but they delight in one another. And that delight is an inexhaustible resource of vitality.
Here's what Courtney E. Martin has learned from ten years of living in an intentional community in Oakland, California.

Affordable housing is more than providing a place to live. It is about building a strong, healthy community. When families can access affordable homes, they have the stability to focus on their jobs, education, and health. This security strengthens neighborhoods, boosts local economies, and ensures that everyone has a fair chance to thrive. Affordable housing also supports diversity, bringing together people from all walks of life, fostering connection and community spirit. Imagine a community where everyone has a safe, comfortable place to call home. One where children can grow, families can support each other, and individuals can build their futures without the constant worry of high rent. Let’s champion affordable housing as a foundational need for all communities. Together, we can help build places where everyone can belong and succeed. #geancocommunitycenter #AffordableHousing #CommunityFirst

Wrapping up the year with a project that makes a difference.... McCormack collaborated with local trades to refurbish Haven House, a 7-bedroom crisis accommodation in Sydney’s Inner West, supporting girls aged 12–17 facing trauma or instability. In partnership with NAWIC NSW - National Association of Women in Construction and Property Industry Foundation, the project provided 3–6 months of safe, supportive housing where residents can access emotional support, education, and employment opportunities. This impactful initiative was made possible through the efforts of dedicated contractors and volunteers. We look forward to engaging in more inspiring projects like this in the future. Last week #Waterloo Regional Council endorsed the Plan to End #ChronicHomelessness. This Plan consists of two coequal documents that are in dialogue with one another: the Plan Document and the Lived Expertise Prototyping Report. I am honoured to have assisted in the development of both documents but I particularly want to shout out the #livedexperts and #advocates who wrote the Prototyping Report. This cohort included folks from the Lived Expertise Working Group, People's Action Group, Unsheltered Campaign, the Alan Ryan People's Community Defense Brigade, Disabilities and Human Rights Working Group, Land Back Camp, Sanguen Health Centre, FightbackKW, KW Multicultural Centre, Going Mobile, A Better Tent City, and the Social Development Centre of Waterloo Region. It is called a prototyping report becuse for the past year this cohort has worked closely with Regional Staff and other stakeholders to identify and experiment with new opportunities for #SystemTransformation. They have compiled common language and key definitions on #homelessness, they have mapped out the legal context for the #HumanRights approach to housing, and they have created 30 concrete #CallsToAction to address the #HousingCrisis now. Please use this document for your own advocacy. Please use it to hold the Region accountable to a human rights approach. Please use it as an example of centring #LivedExperience. Please copy and iterate off of this work as we continue to build momentum for a world where everyone has access to agency, dignity, and aequate housing. You can read the Plan Document here: https://lnkd.in/e6egF_xV And you can learn more about our process here: https://lnkd.in/ezR7-42Z
