At the GWB Annual Event, Skills for Rhode Island's Future received the Workforce System Innovation Award for innovating and improving the Rhode Island Workforce Development System through the workABILITY initiative, which operates in partnership with the Community Provider Network of RI. Skills established the workABILITY initiative in 2020 to help overcome barriers to employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences who are often underrepresented in the workforce. Partnership staff work with local employers to understand their business needs and help demystify the process of hiring and accommodating differently abled workers. Since inception, the workABILITY initiative has helped to place 100 jobseekers into employment, and the Governor’s Workforce Board is a proud supporter of the program.
