#southflorida - while plagued by traffic congestion, a "car-centric" culture, antiquated zoning, and a lack of walkability - the addition of a new public transportation system is welcoming. Effort, however, should be to enhance intra-county/city (east-west) mobility and not a purely linear system. Need a "comprehensive solution. >> Missing Links In Our Tram Network Following on from the theme of small wins for January, the short video on 5 of the missing links in our tram network are worth bring back to the table, when we consider some of the smaller wins in our public transport network. It is interesting to learn that some of these historical "gaps" are the result of pre-1980s competition between rail and tram. With a combined service under Transport Victoria, projects like these certainly present opportunities for Metro Trains Melbourne and Yarra Trams networks to improve transfers between modes. I concur with the author of this video, that it is difficult to justify tram network projects, in already public transport-rich areas when our outer suburbs have infrequent or no bus/rail services. This, however, should not preclude these types of projects from being considered where they have the chance to drastically shape improvements to the transport network. Particularly projects like the West Preston and Chadstone extensions which set infrastructure up for supporting major activity nodes. The Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) recently released "The Transit Code" which is "a national campaign designed to promote safety, courtesy, and respect across transit systems in Canada." Transit agencies across the US in collaboration the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, Federal Railroad Administration and professional organizations such as American Public Transportation Association, COMTO National Office, etc should work together to do something similar. Transit employees across the country are all facing similar issues in regards to "respecting the ride", so everyone should work together for solutions.

Welcome to Multimodal Monday. Today, we are looking back to a day and time when public transportation was a priority for Americans and we could get around without a car. While this video is Ohio-centric, we Hoosiers would contend that the last Interurban is still operating in Indiana, the famed Chicago South Shore! With Interurbans, transportation was frequent, rapid, and timed to the needs of the local riders, not the long-distance, cross country schedule of railroads. It enabled Hoosiers to visit family and friends, explore new economic opportunities, get a better education, and bring fresh foods to market. While most Interurbans have disappeared, the South Shore is expanding its network to meet a need in multimodal transportation. We know the benefits of Interurban transportation. Perhaps it is time to re-invest in a transportation technology that was ahead of its time.

Just wrapped up an engaging case study on urban transportation challenges. It was a great opportunity to apply problem-solving techniques and think critically about real-world issues. I particularly enjoyed diving into the complexities of traffic congestion and exploring innovative solutions like congestion pricing and improved public transportation⌚🚦🚏🚗🚌🚅🚇. #urbanplanning #transportation #case_study #problemsolving #cityplanning
